Africa. The dead are rising from their graves with a hunger for the flesh of the living. As a village falls under an attack, a young boy manages to escape on a Jeep. It’s the 26th of August and that means FrightFest UK 2010 is officially underway. It’s going to be five full days of some fantastic films, including quite a few premieres. Amongst those world premieres will be Howard and Jonathan Ford’s The Dead, one of the most original and highly anticipated films of this years fest. We’ve been following the production of the film closely for some time now. We’ve watched some incredible behind the scenes footage of the hell that went behind the making …

We’ve been following the development of Frank Darabont’s Walking Dead since news first broke of his negotiations with AMC and producer Gale Anne Hurd to bring the beloved comic book property to life. Based on the Image comic by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead follows police officer Rick Grimes as he wakes from a gunshot-induced coma to find the hospital empty and the outside filled, inexplicably, with zombies. Rick sets off to find his wife and son, joins up with a group of fellow survivors, and faces the …

This was just sent our way from E1 Entertainment – a little promo for the UK DVD/Blu-Ray release of [REC] 2, advising the uninitiated on what do in the unfortunate event of a zombie attack. Hint – it won’t help to duck and cover. (Sure, in the wake of Max Brooks the zombie survival tips thing has kind of been done, but it’s a fun little clip nonetheless.)
I loved the original [REC] (see my review here), but unfortunately missed it on its limited run in UK cinemas, so …

Deneen Melody might not be a name you’re immediately familiar with, but you will be soon. She currently has more than half a dozen independently produced films under her belt, with several more lined up for this year. She’s a model, a ballet dancer, and an actress who does her own stunt work. She’s featured as a character in the upcoming comic Ginger Stein: Rise of the Undead, and I’m pretty sure that between all of her projects and keeping up with her …

Last week we gave you an early glimpse into the nightmare of making the The Dead, a new zombie film shot in South Africa that is now slated to premiere at Film4′s FrightFest later this month. (see article here) The Dead, a mash up of 28 Days Later meets Lucio Fulci’s Zombi follows the saga of Lt. Brian Murphy whose plane has crashed off the African coast. This would be a bad enough survival situation as it stands, except he’s up against more than just …

In the wake of a zombie apocalypse, college professor Jack Barnes is bitten and turned into one of the mindless horde. Only, it turns out Mr. Barnes isn’t quite so mindless. Brains is his memoir, written in the hopes of letting the world know of his pursuit for zombie civil rights before he finally, literally falls to pieces. Decay is a bitch, a fact Jack reflects on throughout this amusing, if …

Intro by Marc Patterson
Zombies… I love those brain eating bastards. I’m going to go out on a limb and declare that zombies are the most popular of monsters amongst fans of horror. I know that vampires seem to be pretty popular right now, but let’s face it – amongst horror fiends… give us zombies and give us death!
This week in The Lucky 13 we celebrate our most favorite and treasured zombie horror films. The tastes range from mainline popular films to some more …

You’ve heard us talking about The Dead for sometime (as far back as March of 2009 in fact – see here). But in case this is the first time you’ve heard from us then let’s catch you up. From the outset we described it as a bit of 28 Days Later meets Lucio Fulci’s Zombi 2 in South Africa, and that’s essentially what we’re hoping it’s going to be. (we have a couple really cool trailers here)
The synopsis goes something like this: After crashing off …

I just read the official plot synopsis for Quarantine 2 and it’s got me scratching my head.
What were they thinking?
Were they even thinking anything at all? Who comes up with this stuff? Let’s talk shall we?
First – I applaud Lightning Entertainment for taking a step away from the story of [REC] and expanding the universe. Not that I think it’s necessarily a good idea, but more to the point that it really WOULD have been dumb to see just another shot for shot remake. …
