(P-P-P-Please excuse that P-P-P-porky Pig of a headline…)
On the same day that a trailer was released for a new Wes Craven movie that looks so mind-numbingly prosaic and uninventive that we’re not going to post it here, Mother Internet also saw fit to gift us with this little beauty: the trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s latest, Black Swan. It’s fascinating; it’s haunting; it leaves you with very little idea what to expect from the final movie. Put simply, it’s everything that the My Soul To Take trailer isn’t.
Now most …

In addition to some official Inception stills, Warner Bros. has also released official images for Vincenzo Natali’s Splice! This is probably my most anticipated horror film of the year. Hell, I’ve been anticipating this film for three years now. I realize some of these images have been making the rounds on the internet for some time, but these are direct from Warner Bros. and free of any website watermarks. Enjoy the synopsis and images below, and visit www.splicethefilm.com for more information!
Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa …

Sympathy (2007)
Vicious Circle Films
Directed by Andrew Moorman
Cast: Aaron Boucher, Steven Pritchard, Marina Shtelen
Review by Marc Patterson
Ever check into a cheap motel and wonder if anyone was murdered in the room you’re about to spend the night in? If you’re anything like me, then you certainly have. After all, aren’t cheap roadside motels places where bad things naturally go to happen? I know Psycho was made fifty years ago, but that film still feeds my paranoia about hole in the wall motels. (And literally holes in the walls …

I can’t speak for everyone at Brutal As Hell, but I myself am a firm admirer of Jake West, the British director behind two gems of low-budget trash horror, Razor Blade Smile and Evil Aliens. Now Bloody Disgusting  reports that his latest is in the works, with several key cast members already in place:
“The Scribbler (…) will star Christina Cole, Felicity Jones, Kaime Winstone, Lee Ingleby and Sean Pertwee. The film is a noir sci-fi action thriller about a young woman recently released from a mental hospital, and continuing a …

Wake (2010)
SXSW 2010
Directed by: Chad Feehan
Starring: Josh Stewart, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Chris Browning, Angela Featherstone
Studio: The Fort
Review by: Britt Hayes
Paul (Stewart) and Adrienne (Sigler) are on a road trip to Los Angeles for an old fraternity brother’s wedding when Adrienne decides to get a little frisky in the car. While Paul is driving. He almost wrecks the car and the two are visibly shaken, so they decide to seek shelter in a nearby hotel for the evening. I believe Adrienne actually said “You’re tired and I’m horny.” Sound logic to me …

SXSW is hectic, to say the least, so I won’t get around to full reviews right off the bat. Instead, I’ll be throwing you some short initial thoughts, and posting the reviews when I get the chance. Look for reviews sometime this week or next week, and until then, enjoy my Shorthand thoughts:

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil: Fantastic horror comedy from Canadian writer/director Eli Craig. The film has a great cast, including Alan Tudyk – who you may know as Pirate Steve from Dodgeball – as Tucker, Tyler …

I love Christina Ricci. Greatest actress ever? Not in a million years, but she’s just so damn cute and likable that it’s hard to not like her. I’d put Drew Barrymore on that same list until her incredible turn as Little Edie Beale in HBO’s Grey Gardens. (What’s that you say? You don’t know about Grey Gardens? Rectify that situation now and rent the astounding Maysles brothers documentary. It will change your life. You’re welcome.)
After.Life sounds like a pretentious Bright Eyes song title from Digital Ash in A …

Steven Soderbergh is the Brett Favre of filmmaking. He’s retiring, he’s not retiring, okay just one more movie, nevermind. Look, I’m not complaining. Soderbergh is a seriously talented man with some seriously fantastic films (I can really do without Traffic, though). And now he’s lending his talents to something more palatable for horror fans: Contagion.
Contagion is based on a script by Scott Z. Burns, who also wrote last year’s The Informant! for Soderbergh. The project is being described as an “action thriller” about a deadly virus let loose …

The South by Southwest (SXSW) festival is held every March in Austin, Texas (aka The Greatest City Ever), showcasing the newest, bestest, and brightest of film, music, and more. This year’s SXSW film festival takes place March 12th-20th, and this week the official site posted the list of films we can look forward to. I’ve taken a look at the list and compiled films relevant to our readers’ interests below.
But before I get to that, I wanted to point out that Kick-Ass is playing the festival. I had …
