The Slasher Film: a popular sub-genre of the horror film industry which provides a therapeutic outlet for the sociopathic, sexually frustrated teenagers of today. Generally a sensationalistic vehicle for a psychopathic killer, a large phallic weapon, copious amounts of blood and nubile teenage girls in revealing underclothes, the slasher film allows the burdened adolescent psyche to safely deal with their fears and anxieties …

I don’t know if that headline even makes sense. But it sounds good. Kind of.
ANYWAY – I just got word moments ago (so call this hot off the press?) that just in time for your summer pool party comes SuicideGirls Must Die!, which totes itself as the first reality horror movie. Not sure what they mean by that since horror has practically defined “reality film”. Cannibal Holocaust, Blair Witch Project, and let’s not forget Paranoramal Activity. That’s just to name a few recognizable …

Slasher (2007)
DVD Release Date:May 5, 2010
Directed by Frank Montag

I’m a big fan of senseless violence and gratuitous gore. I love the disgusting, sickening, and obscene. I feel that’s like stating the obvious. After all, nobody writes for a site called “Brutal As Hell” for anything less. But if there’s one thing I can’t abide by, it’s cheap, lazy filmmaking. I can take your cheese, and low brow and dumbed down ridiculousness, but don’t get lazy on me.
Slasher opens with a …

Like so many readers, I’m sure, who come to this site, Freddy Krueger is, for me, an icon. As Superman has become an icon of heroism and Americana, recognized world over, Freddy is the epitome of villainy, both in terms of real terror, and in the Snidely Whiplash kind of way. Regardless of what he may have become in later years, later films, throughout my childhood Freddy was …

Sigh…
I’m going to invent a new toy. And I shall call it “The Slasher Movie Do-It-Yourself kit!” And there shall be much rejoicing. Said kit will contain an even number of male and female paper dolls with interchangeable personalities: slutty, bitchy, virginal, stupid, jerkoff, nice guy, oversexed, etc. But wait, there’s more! If you order now, you’ll also receive a shaky plot, a bottle …

Red Hook (2009)
DVD Release Date: February 16, 2010
Directed By: Elizabeth Lucas
Cast: Christina Brucato, Hollis Scarborough, Tate Ellington, Terrence Mann

So despite my better judgment (and my boredom), I waded back into the murky waters of Netflix Instant. This one caught my eye because of its female director, who had jumped from an award-wining musical short to horror of all things, but the plot seemed relatively simple and entertaining, and I always like an entertaining slasher movie.
Red Hook follows a freshman in college, Jenny, who is struggling to find …

Look, even David Arquette and Courtney Cox Arquette are shocked, as if to say “Look! Craven is back! We’re making another Scream film!” Variety reported earlier that Scream 4 is on and truly happening. Shooting will begin in the near future and a preliminary release date has been set for April 12, 2011. If they could have held off for just a few months we could have come out and said “a full fifteen years since the original”.
Most important to the process, Wes Craven who …

UK readers take note – this is what our American friends call a ‘heads-up!’ This coming Saturday, Birmingham’s Custard Factory plays host to Ghouls On Film, a one-day festival to mark Women In Horror Recognition Month organised by Nia Edwards-Behi (who was recently interviewed at Fatally Yours, and a good read it is too.) I will be there along with many more UK horror fans to show our appreciation for independent horror and the women working in it.
The line-up is as follows:
“Starting at 3pm is an hour of …

Happy Birthday to Me. You’re all invited to my party!
Better watch out or Ginny, wait I mean Ann? Yes definitely Ann this time, will slit your… cupcake?
I can’t, I won’t, and yes I out right refuse to do a Valentine’s Day post just because it’s February and apparently the cool thing to do. I would rather be shackled to a pine tree and forced to watch the Notebook again before I dare write anything supporting mushy love. It’s true. I am a bitter shell of a person and …

I’m not going to lie. I’m a dirty motherfucker. I was a fan of hot tattooed alt chicks well before the internet created a place for them. It only makes sense. Tattooed punk rock boys desire sexy tattooed punk rock girls. But, god bless the web… they have a wonderful place to all hang out together. And now these girls are making a movie. No talent? No problem. It’s not needed. Shoot this shit Real World style. Drop twelve hotties into a cabin …
