For years there has been discussion of a possible prequel or sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing. The Thing was itself a remake of the 1951 film, The Thing From Another World, which was in turn based on a novella by John W. Campbell Jr., titled Who Goes There? For a while it seemed no one knew which direction the new film would take. It was said that a sequel would follow MacReady’s brother, coming to the the remote Antarctic station to find out what happened to his …

Welcome to the final part of our first annual holiday gift guide. I’m going to run things down a little differently in this edition. In the DVD and Blu-ray sections, I’ll start with bargains, move to regular priced items, and then to boxed sets and pricey editions (if any). For books, it’ll just be a veritable mix of comic books, novels, and the like, priced lowest to highest. Let’s get started, shall we?
DVD

In this Vincent Price three-pack, you get the original House on Haunted Hill, The Bat, and …

Big news day for Adam Green, writer/director of the 2006 slasher film, Hatchet. In an exclusive with Shock Til You Drop, Green says he’ll be back to write and direct Hatchet 2:
“It’s finally happening,” Green enthused. “It’s going to have double the body count, and Anchor Bay is being cool enough to allow me to make the sequel I want to make.”
The first Hatchet film starred Joel Moore (Dodgeball, Grandma’s Boy, the upcoming Avatar) as a guy whose friends drag him to New Orleans on Mardi Gras to …

Rob Zombie recently took to his Twitter to share with the public, in 140 characters or less, what he’s up to:
“Just finished doing the director’s commentary for the DVD of Halloween 2. Love the new cut. This is the real film.”
He also previously mentioned that this version is “very different” from the theatrical cut. God, I hope so. It’s no secret that I was very disappointed with H2. After being one of very few people who enjoyed Zombie’s Halloween as a whole, even though I thought it …

According to Mania, a new Crow script has been turned in to Relativity Media and they’re ready to start casting. Blade director Stephen Norrington penned the script.
This new version of The Crow will not be a straight remake, but more of a “reboot” (still, it’s a “re” something). Norrington has previously stated, “Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style.” If this involves a handheld shaky cam and Matrix slow-mo, count me out. It’s hard to take …

It’s been 30 years since Phantasm first hit theater screens and introduced the Tall Man to the movie-going public in 1979. The classic film tells the tale of a young boy and his friends who must fight the evil, grave-robbing Tall Man, a mysterious foe armed to the teeth with terrifying weaponry. Writer/Director Don Coscarelli and stars Angus Scrimm and Reggie Bannister recently sat down with the LA Times to discuss the film, and as usual, the discussion turned to the status of a remake or sequel. Coscarelli …

According to Shock Til You Drop, Derek Mears confirmed at the Rock n’ Shock horror convention this past weekend that he will be joining the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predator sequel, titled Predators. It looks like Mears will be playing one of the many Predators in the film. Mears is best known for his latest role as Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th reboot for Platinum Dunes. While I personally liked the film and only found it to have minor flaws, our own Ben Bussey gave it a less-than-favorable …
