The Evil Dead (Blu-ray Review)

Review by Marc Patterson
Let’s start this review off with a little cinematic confessional. Ahem… *clears throat*
I’ve never been able to sit straight through a viewing of The Evil Dead in just one shot. It’s true. I’ve always had to pause it, get up, and take a break from the maniacal craziness on screen. I’m not talking about having to go for a walk or anything. More like hit the fridge for a fresh beer, take …

Okay – technically that was five words. But who’s counting? And really… do we need to even say anymore? Of course we do. You need details!
On August 31, Anchor Bay is releasing Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead on Blu-ray (at long last) to legions of demon possessed fans, fans like us, who will snag this up with our greedy little claws. Anchor Bay seems to know what fans want too because this isn’t just a cleaned up transfer dumped onto a disc …

As his sword & sandal slash-’em-up Centurion opens across the UK (though not at my locale, annoyingly), Digital Spy caught a word with Neil Marshall and learned that his next flick, Burst, is “hopefully going into production in the summertime.” The movie will see Marshall return to the horror genre, but in new company: Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Lionsgate. I’m assuming that means he’ll be leaving his beloved northern Britain and shooting stateside with a US cast, although Marshall doesn’t say anything to confirm this. All we know …

I love John Waters. I love Elvira. I love Peaches Christ – so it’s a no brainer that I’m going to LOVE All About Evil.  Back in November we made our first post about All About Evil announcing the official site launch as well as providing a handful of stills well before others jumped on board the bandwagon (Not that we’re bitter or anything.  After all, the more folks that jump on this bandwagon the better). Today the folks from All About Evil have revealed a new …

“Outlandish, Over-the-Top, and Non-Stop Entertainment”. Those are words from my original review of Dead Snow and words I’ll stand by.  Now finally, many months later we get to bring the zany insanity home on February 23 thanks to IFC and MPI Media Group.  That’s right. Just moments ago I got the official press release and I must admit… I’m pretty psyched for this release for a variety of reasons.  The first is that I was never able to properly catch Dead Snow in theaters. I was only able …

Ladies and Gents, You can’t even begin to know how stoked I am to report this news. Ever since it became a current news item regarding the remakes of Hellraiser in 3-D and An American Werewolf in London I’ve been genuinely conflicted and bummed. I HATE, and I mean HATE with all capital letters having to report on big studio remakes of films that should never be remade, especially when they are going to simply be subpar sequels that are in no way memorable, and serve …

Variety has gotten word that Lakeshore Entertainment has signed Scott Derrickson to direct a new supernatural suspense thriller called The Living. The film will be produced by Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, as well as Paul Harris Boardman. Boardman and Derrickson previously made the successful The Exorcism of Emily Rose for Lakeshore in 2005.
The plot for The Living has yet to be revealed, but is based on a pitch by Derrickson and Boardman. Derrickson recently directed the atrocious The Day the Earth Stood Still remake with Boardman producing. …
