Anchor Bay has acquired Cine Tel Film’s remake of I Spit on Your Grave (aka Day of the Woman). You’d think with Anchor Bay’s acquisition we’d only get a DTV release, but that’s not so. Anchor Bay plans on releasing the film in the US, UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. The film will get a theatrical release sometime this fall, with a DVD/Blu release in early 2011 (I’m thinking they’re going for the October/January model).
The original 1978 film was written and directed by Meir Zarchi, and followed …

It’s Alive (2008)
Studio: Millenium Films/First Look Pictures
Directed by: Josef Rusnak
Cast: Bijou Phillips, James Murray, Raphael Coleman, Owen Teale, Ty Glaser
Review by: Britt Hayes
Those familiar with the 1974 Larry Cohen classic killer baby film It’s Alive will undoubtedly be familiar with this story, and some may even be excited: Larry Cohen is credited as a co-writer of this 2008 remake of his own film. Instead of comparing and contrasting the two films, which would be tiresome and useless, I’ll just say this: the 1974 version of It’s Alive works for many …

The prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing is set to start lensing in March. Director Matthijs Van Heijningen will direct from a script by Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street remake), for Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment. The plot of this script, according to Bloody-Disgusting:
An alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice near a remote Antarctica outpost. We’re told that a group of scientists decide to thaw out a creature from inside that kicks off the mayhem at the camp.
From everything we’ve gathered, this seems to …

For years there has been discussion of a possible prequel or sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing. The Thing was itself a remake of the 1951 film, The Thing From Another World, which was in turn based on a novella by John W. Campbell Jr., titled Who Goes There? For a while it seemed no one knew which direction the new film would take. It was said that a sequel would follow MacReady’s brother, coming to the the remote Antarctic station to find out what happened to his …

Bloody-Disgusting has an update on Guillermo Del Toro’s The Orphanage, a remake of the Spanish horror film, El Orfanato. Director Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter) has stepped off the Del Toro-produced project, and New Line Cinema has replaced him with director Mark Pellington (the excellent Arlington Road, and the beautiful but not-so-good Mothman Prophecies).
Pellington will still direct from the script penned by Del Toro and Fessenden, making this sound like more of a timing or scheduling issue than a difference of vision. The Orphanage has been in the …

Welcome to the final part of our first annual holiday gift guide. I’m going to run things down a little differently in this edition. In the DVD and Blu-ray sections, I’ll start with bargains, move to regular priced items, and then to boxed sets and pricey editions (if any). For books, it’ll just be a veritable mix of comic books, novels, and the like, priced lowest to highest. Let’s get started, shall we?

In this Vincent Price three-pack, you get the original House on Haunted Hill, The Bat, and …

Big news day for Adam Green, writer/director of the 2006 slasher film, Hatchet. In an exclusive with Shock Til You Drop, Green says he’ll be back to write and direct Hatchet 2:
“It’s finally happening,” Green enthused. “It’s going to have double the body count, and Anchor Bay is being cool enough to allow me to make the sequel I want to make.”
The first Hatchet film starred Joel Moore (Dodgeball, Grandma’s Boy, the upcoming Avatar) as a guy whose friends drag him to New Orleans on Mardi Gras to …

Oh hey, look! There’s another remake! And guess what, you guys?!?! It’s going to be in 3-D! While the news of yet another remake should come as no surprise (and if it does, you have more optimism left in your precious head than I), a remake being done in 3-D….well, that’s not really surprising either. Over the last year or so, 3-D has seen a huge resurgence in the film industry. While some films are worthy of the treatment, other films rely on it as a gimmick to …

Rob Zombie recently took to his Twitter to share with the public, in 140 characters or less, what he’s up to:
“Just finished doing the director’s commentary for the DVD of Halloween 2. Love the new cut. This is the real film.”
He also previously mentioned that this version is “very different” from the theatrical cut. God, I hope so. It’s no secret that I was very disappointed with H2. After being one of very few people who enjoyed Zombie’s Halloween as a whole, even though I thought it …
