Okay, try to contain yourselves now… it’s been announced by Entertainment Weekly that Dimension Films is starting development on a sequel to Piranha 3-D. And… yeah, funnily enough, that’s pretty much all we know at this point.
Now this is some fascinating news in many respects. Piranha’s opening weekend only earned them $10 million/6th place at the US box office; this off the back of a $25 million budget. That’s hardly instant blockbuster status. And yet (my own review notwithstanding) the word-of-mouth has been so overwhelmingly positive, with everyone from the mainstream critics …

Initially, I wasn’t going to do a write up on this. Several writer friends of mine have already tackled the topic, including John Gholson over at HorrorSquad and Scott Weinberg at Cinematical, and it seems redundant to echo the sentiment here. That said, I’d be remiss if I didn’t attempt to valiantly defend one of my favorite horror films, and one of the best horror films of the last several years.
Is the news of a potential remake of a film (especially a horror film) shocking to anyone anymore? …

The plot thickens on Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night remake. Not so long ago we learned that Anton Yelchin will be taking the pivotal role of Charley Brewster, the potentially paranoid adolescent who believes his new next door neighbour to be the undead. This was inspiring news. Even more inspiring is today’s news on who will be filling the shoes (and hopefully the V-neck sweater) of the vamp-next-door Jerry Dandridge. According to Deadline, it’s none other than Colin Farrell.
This is one of those times when it’s an actor I never would have thought of, but …

Thanks to the awesome Drew McWeeny of HitFix for sending this my way since our e-mail from Anchor Bay somehow got lost. I’ll blame the interweb trolls. Like dryer trolls, only more evil.
Anyway. I interviewed the four leads of director Steven Monroe’s remake of I Spit On Your Grave over the weekend and I’ll have that up for you guys this week. Until then, the official poster has been released along with the synopsis:
A remake of the controversial 1979 cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the …

Like so many readers, I’m sure, who come to this site, Freddy Krueger is, for me, an icon. As Superman has become an icon of heroism and Americana, recognized world over, Freddy is the epitome of villainy, both in terms of real terror, and in the Snidely Whiplash kind of way. Regardless of what he may have become in later years, later films, throughout my childhood Freddy was …

The old slasher supervillians just can’t get a break at the moment, it seems. First Patrick Lussier’s Halloween 3-D fails to get beyond the drawing board, and now it’s come to light that the sequel to Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th reboot has also been shelved. And, as is rapidly becoming the norm, the scoop came from Twitter – one @Mayroth_Tucker3 asked Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes what was happening, to which Fuller’s reply was “it is dead – not happening.” Bloody Disgusting got further confirmation of this: …

I hope everyone has their tickets because Texas Frightmare Weekend is only a few weeks away. We’ve just gotten word that Anchor Bay will be on hand to show some footage from director Steven Monroe’s remake of I Spit On Your Grave. In addition to Monroe, stars Sarah Butler, Chad Lindberg, and Rodney Eastman will also be there to host the footage. There will be a Q & A with the director and actors after the footage.
Until then, check out the first images below from the film courtesy …

Anchor Bay has acquired Cine Tel Film’s remake of I Spit on Your Grave (aka Day of the Woman). You’d think with Anchor Bay’s acquisition we’d only get a DTV release, but that’s not so. Anchor Bay plans on releasing the film in the US, UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. The film will get a theatrical release sometime this fall, with a DVD/Blu release in early 2011 (I’m thinking they’re going for the October/January model).
The original 1978 film was written and directed by Meir Zarchi, and followed …

For years there has been discussion of a possible prequel or sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing. The Thing was itself a remake of the 1951 film, The Thing From Another World, which was in turn based on a novella by John W. Campbell Jr., titled Who Goes There? For a while it seemed no one knew which direction the new film would take. It was said that a sequel would follow MacReady’s brother, coming to the the remote Antarctic station to find out what happened to his …

Oh hey, look! There’s another remake! And guess what, you guys?!?! It’s going to be in 3-D! While the news of yet another remake should come as no surprise (and if it does, you have more optimism left in your precious head than I), a remake being done in 3-D….well, that’s not really surprising either. Over the last year or so, 3-D has seen a huge resurgence in the film industry. While some films are worthy of the treatment, other films rely on it as a gimmick to …
