Slasher (2007)
DVD Release Date:May 5, 2010
Directed by Frank Montag
Review by Marc Patterson
I’m a big fan of senseless violence and gratuitous gore. I love the disgusting, sickening, and obscene. I feel that’s like stating the obvious. After all, nobody writes for a site called “Brutal As Hell” for anything less. But if there’s one thing I can’t abide by, it’s cheap, lazy filmmaking. I can take your cheese, and low brow and dumbed down ridiculousness, but don’t get lazy on me.
Slasher opens with a …

Long Pigs (2010)
Directed by Chris Power and Nathan Hynes
Cast: Anthony Alviano, Shane Harbinson, Roger King, Kelly McIntosh, Nathan Hynes, Chris Power,
Review by Marc Patterson
Long Pig is a Polynesian term for human flesh, specifically in reference towards cannibalism. Though on the surface Long Pigs is about a common all-American serial killing cannibal next door, there’s a lot more happening with this low budget indie film from writer/director duo Chris Power and Nathan Hynes. The story unfolds with a disclaimer: “The following documentary film contains scenes of extreme graphic violence, nudity, …

I’m not going to lie. I haven’t seen Horror Hospital, nor do I know anything about this film. So I’m going to do something I rarely do… I’m going to let the press release do the talking.  The only added disclaimer to this I’m going to add is that normally I’d never do this, but coming from Dark Sky Films I feel almost safe in allowing the copy of a PR agency do the talking for me.  Dark Sky has established themselves as a solid, reliable source for …

HellBride (2007)
Distributor: Brain Damage
Directed by: Pat Higgins
Starring: James Fisher, Rebecca Herod, James Kavaz, Cy Henty, Eleanor James
Review by: Ben Bussey
Lee (Fisher) is a stand-up comedian, his act full of musings on the tempestuous nature of romantic relations. To his considerable surprise, he’s come to the resolute conclusion that his girlfriend Nicole (Herod) is the one. Wanting to do the whole thing right in the old-fashioned way, he hunts down the perfect antique engagement ring, and asks the permission of Nicole’s father (Kavaz). It’s a match made in heaven, but for …

Jeez, I can’t believe it’s been eight months since we posted the first teaser trailer for Bio-Slime. (No one said making movies was a quick thing!) Bloody-Disgusting.com was just given the final teaser trailer for John Lechago’s slime and gore heavy flick. There’s two reasons I’m excited for this film. 1. Anyone who knows me knows that I despise CGI gore. Bio-Slime automatically gets a fistful of points for utilizing a shit ton of practical nasty gut churning effects. 2. As mentioned, …

Backwoods Bloodbath (2007)
Distributor: MVM
Directed by: Donn Kennedy
Starring: Scott Ash, Ryan Buth, Tyler Constable, Angela Lowe
Review by: Ben Bussey
I am at my wit’s end. Every time I sit down to write a review, my first course of action is to provide a succinct and catchy synopsis, to captivate the attention of you, the reader, and give you broadly a sense of what the film in question is like. But here I am trying to do that for Backwoods Bloodbath, and I just can’t do it. Within hours of seeing the film, …

Well this is an interesting bit of news. Adam Wingard who directed the ultra low budget, but extremely high quality, Pop Skull (review here) as well as Homesick (review here), is into his latest project and this time it sounds like he has a bit more than $3,000 to work with. The project is called A Horrible Way to Die.  (You just got a look at the first official production still above.)
The cast line up includes A.J. Bowen (The House of the Devil), Amy Seimetz (Wristcutters: …

Dead Hooker In A Trunk (2009)
Directed by: Jen Soska & Sylvia Soska
Cast: Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska, Ricki Gagne, C J Wallis
Review by: Ben Bussey
It sounds straight away like the set-up to a joke, so I might as well do the synopsis as such…
So there’s these twin sisters. One of them’s a badass, and one of them’s a geek. The badass has a BFF who’s a junkie, whilst the geek is chummy with a goody-two shoes who pounds the bible and volunteers at a church youth group. Whilst neither duo wants …

Interview Conducted by Marc Patterson
During January’s Slamdance Film Festival I got the opportunity to interview Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland, writers and directors of the upcoming YellowBrickRoad. The film is a psychological horror film set deep in the woods of New Hampshire, on a mysterious trail called “YellowBrickRoad”. The legend tells that on one morning in 1940 the entire town of Friar, New Hampshire (572 men, women, and children) walked together up a mountain trail and disappeared into the wilderness with no explanation. Roughly half the bodies …

If you saw my report on the Gorezone Weekend of Horror film fest back at Halloween, you may remember I mentioned meeting & chatting with David VG Davis, main man of FilmMA and co-director of possibly the sickest film I’ve ever seen, Animal Soup. At the time, Davis told me he was in prep on their next feature, Monitor; and as he announced on FilmMA’s Twitter feed today:
‘filming of monitor begins wednesday 20th jan’
Those of you with calenders may note that date is… tomorrow.
While deeply flawed, Animal Soup is …
