As the saying goes – all good things have to come to an end. That being said I think it’s only fitting that we wrap up this summer long series with a look at the red headed stepchild of horror. The most popular of all sub-genres and the one that gets pissed on the most. They are the films that folks love to hate and hate to love, but love them we do. They are the …

Prince of Darkness (1987)
Directed by John Carpenter
Starring Donald Pleasence, Jameson Parker, Victor Wong, Alice Cooper, Lisa Blount, Dennis Dun, Susan Blanchard
Review by Sam Hawken
John Carpenter has had a lot of comebacks. As his films have grown more and more disappointing to fans, it’s become something of a habit to proclaim his latest project a return to form. Ghosts of Mars was supposed to be a comeback. Vampires was supposed to be a comeback. And on and on.
Interestingly enough, the first film viewed as a “return to …

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2009)
SXSW 2010
Directed by: Eli Craig
Starring: Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss
Review by: Britt Hayes
Tucker and Dale are two redneck friends with a dream to own their very own vacation house in the woods by the lake. They sink their life savings into a “fixer upper” cabin and head up there for the weekend to fish, drink beer, and get to work on repairing their new investment. On their way, they bump into a group of college kids heading up to the same woods. …

In what happens to be the news of the morning (or late last night if you were paying attention) Alexandre Aja’s upcoming 3-D remake of ‘Piranha’ has been pushed back to an unspecified August release date, from its original release date of April 16. While a release date getting the studio shuffle isn’t anything new, this does come with the added baggage that the Weinstein Company has been suffering from financial woes. They claim this move has nothing to do with their finances. …

News just broke late last night (at least for those of us on the East Coast) that Adam Green’s Hatchet 2 has been picked up by Dark Sky Films with the intent of turning the films into the next big horror franchise. Earlier last week our own Britt Hayes spoke to Adam during final pre-production on the film, and we’ll be bringing that interview to you in the next couple of days.
From the press release:
The movie, which has just begun shooting in LA, brings back …

Clearly Slipknot has matured a bit from their early nu-metal antics of the late 90′s. They just debuted their full video for Snuff yesterday and I must say it’s pretty impressive. Snuff, the fifth single from All Hope is Gone is a creepy and highly stylized mind-bending video with Lynchian elements sure to please both fans of the band and horror. The video features horror icons Malcolm McDowell (most recently of Halloween fame) and Ashley Laurence, who you remember from the Hellraiser films.

Bad ass bikers and zombi-esque rockabillies? The Violent Kind, You had me at hello. We just learned that The Violent Kind, the evil spawn of the ‘The Butcher Brothers’, who you may know as the director of The Hamiltons, have just got their film accepted to Sundance for a midnight screening. Right now we don’t know too much about the film other than it promises loads of nasty gore, and will likely feature a kick ass rockabilly soundtrack to complement some gut munching grindhouse style …

Welcome to the final part of our first annual holiday gift guide. I’m going to run things down a little differently in this edition. In the DVD and Blu-ray sections, I’ll start with bargains, move to regular priced items, and then to boxed sets and pricey editions (if any). For books, it’ll just be a veritable mix of comic books, novels, and the like, priced lowest to highest. Let’s get started, shall we?

In this Vincent Price three-pack, you get the original House on Haunted Hill, The Bat, and …

Rob Zombie recently took to his Twitter to share with the public, in 140 characters or less, what he’s up to:
“Just finished doing the director’s commentary for the DVD of Halloween 2. Love the new cut. This is the real film.”
He also previously mentioned that this version is “very different” from the theatrical cut. God, I hope so. It’s no secret that I was very disappointed with H2. After being one of very few people who enjoyed Zombie’s Halloween as a whole, even though I thought it …
