Initially, I wasn’t going to do a write up on this. Several writer friends of mine have already tackled the topic, including John Gholson over at HorrorSquad and Scott Weinberg at Cinematical, and it seems redundant to echo the sentiment here. That said, I’d be remiss if I didn’t attempt to valiantly defend one of my favorite horror films, and one of the best horror films of the last several years.
Is the news of a potential remake of a film (especially a horror film) shocking to anyone anymore? …

SXSW 2010: Monsters
Directed by: Gareth Edwards
Starring: Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy
Review by: Britt Hayes
Six years ago, aliens invaded Mexico and they haven’t left. In fact, they’ve been multiplying. Every year they migrate, and during this time, it is unsafe to travel within the infected zone. Andrew Kaulder (McNairy) is a photo-journalist on a mission. His ordinary pictures of people, places, and things, don’t net him enough money. What his boss pays the big bucks for are pictures of depressing things like dead children, and what his boss wants right now are …

From the moment I laid eyes on images from The Human Centipede (First Sequence), I was irrationally fearful. How is this possible? In my film food triangle, horror is the fruit and veggies, meaning that I watch it more than any other genre (hence why I write here for you lovely people). I can’t recall the last time I was this terrified about a movie, and I haven’t even seen this film yet.
I think the last time I was scared during a movie was during Alexandre Bustillo’s À …

Park Chan-Wook’s newest film, THIRST is starting to get some really rave reviews.  Unfortunately we haven’t yet had the chance to sit down to screen this, but if it’s anything like his Vengenance Trilogy then it’s sure to be a fantastic cinematic experience.
A priest becomes a vampire…another man’s wife is coveted…a deadly seduction triggers murder. Thirst is the new film from director Park Chan-wook (Old Boy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance). Already a boxoffice smash in Korea, Thirst was honored with the Prix du Jury [Jury Prize] …

I’m hopeful, I really am, that maybe some of the internet hype is reaching the general market out there. When I went to buy my copy of Let the Right One In, it was sold out at the first two stores I went to, and almost gone at the third. It got a limited engagement here at a local theater …

Local TV anchor Angela (Velasco) and her cameraman Pablo (Rosso apparently, though his face is never shown) aren’t anticipating anything too noteworthy when they spend a night in an inner city fire station for their local interest news slot. But just when things seem to be at their sleepiest, a call comes out for help at …

A live action adaptation of the anime original Blood: The Last Vampire is the story of Saya, who is part of an elite team that seeks out and destroys demons.  Hrmm… not too original.  Didn’t I just see the same thing, but with a slightly different twist in the more recent Tokyo Gore Police?  Check official synopsis and the non-subtitled trailer below.  FYI – If you’re in Japan you can see this on May 29.  Everyone else?  Tough titties.
On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year old, but that youthful …

Baise Moi (2000)
Studio: Remstar
DVD Release Date: November 22, 2005
Directed By: Virginie Despentes, Coralie Trinh Thi
Cast: Karen Lancaume (as Karen Bach), Raffaëla Anderson
Brutal As Hell Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Review By: Marc Patterson

“Baise Moi” translates quite literally into “Rape Me”.  That’s powerful without needing anything further said.  Based on the title alone you’re either going to be curious enough to pick the film up, or repulsed enough to simply pass along.  So graphic is the simple title that the film has been given no English title.  Thank god our …
