If there’s one thing to be said for re-makes is that they always provide a window for re-issues of the original film. Usually that re-issue means an upgrade, with cleaned up source material, added extras, and the lot. You can hate the remake but you gotta love the red tide ushered in their wake. In the case of Piranha 3-D I’m declaring a win-win. I’ve been pretty vocal from the outset that this is one remake I have absolutely no problem with. In my professional …

When I was younger, I didn’t care much for Scorsese films. Truth is, I didn’t understand them because there was some level of maturity there that was beyond my comprehension. As an adult, I’ve come to know and love each of his films (some more than others – Casino is my favorite), and I find that with …

Welcome to the final part of our first annual holiday gift guide. I’m going to run things down a little differently in this edition. In the DVD and Blu-ray sections, I’ll start with bargains, move to regular priced items, and then to boxed sets and pricey editions (if any). For books, it’ll just be a veritable mix of comic books, novels, and the like, priced lowest to highest. Let’s get started, shall we?

In this Vincent Price three-pack, you get the original House on Haunted Hill, The Bat, and …

Paranormal Activity will be released by Paramount Home Entertainment on December 29th. Looks like Paramount took the advice of some in releasing the film on DVD and Blu before the end of the year. Makes sense fiscally. This is where they’ll really see a surge of cash.
The PARANORMAL ACTIVITY DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround (theatrical version only) and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The two-disc
Blu-ray is presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master …

Although it didn’t do as well as expected in theaters (especially with Diablo Cody’s name attached and Megan Fox half-naked), Jennifer’s Body was still a great film. At least I think so.
Video ETA says that Fox Home Entertainment is courting a December 29th release date, but this information is not yet confirmed. Naturally, no information on special features or Blu-ray has been announced as of this time, but I imagine if December is what they’re looking at, we should hear something in the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I’m …

October has been an insane month for horror releases, for obvious reasons. There have been some great titles, and some awesome surprises, but looking at the grand scope for this month’s releases, I find myself underwhelmed. Here we are in our last week, and I think it’s the best yet:
Black Devil Doll
Holy shit. While the artwork screams blacksploitation in the 70’s, this film came out last year. Just watch the NSFW trailer over on Youtube. Trust me, it will change your fucking life. “He’s a lover! He’s a …

We’ve got a slew of releases this week, but don’t get too excited. Some of them are a bit lackluster, to say the least.
Blood: The Last Vampire
Marc assures me that this film sucks (get it? Shoot me), but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to see it. I watched the trailer again recently (before Drag Me To Hell, I believe), and something about the cinematography – which I’ll admit is a bit predictable in style – really caught my eye. Blood is based on the anime of the …

Lionsgate is releasing a heap of films on November 24th (in time for Thanksgiving…I guess?), including special editions like My Bloody Valentine: Special Edition, Cujo: 25th Anniversary Edition, and Monster Squad: 20th Anniversary Edition, as well as genre favorite Frailty, the directorial debut of one Mr. Bill Paxton.
Frailty stars Matthew McConaughey (I miss when he did roles like this, but those RomCom paychecks are mighty tempting, so I hear), Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, and Matt O’Leary. The film is written by Brent Hanley and follows Fenton Meeks, the …

Sam Raimi’s return to horror releases on DVD and Blu-ray today, starring Alison Lohman and Justin Long. The story follows Christine Brown (Lohman), a loan officer who is charged with evicting a little old woman from her home; unfortunately, the little old woman is really a gypsy and curses Christine to a life of living hell. While Drag Me to Hell didn’t do too well at the box office (a victim of poor marketing and lazy theater-goers – we’re looking at you), it received high praise. Raimi’s long-awaited …

An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Director: John Landis
Review by: Dustin Hall
Finally, a great oversight in the world of horror has been corrected.
To me, An American Werewolf in London (AWL) is a member of the pantheon of great horror movies. To some it may be blasphemy against the name of Lon Cheney Jr., but AWL is probably the best werewolf movie of all time. I think back on The Wolf Man, The Howling, Ginger Snaps, Dog Soldiers, Underworld; I love all of these movies for different attributes, but I don’t think …
