If you head on over to Apple, you can check out the HD version of the teaser for JJ Abrams’ Super 8, which is being executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Super 8 promises to be something along the lines of early Amblin films. Automatically, E.T. comes to mind. Still, there’s nothing I’d rather see more than an Abrams/Spielberg collaboration, even if it were called Schindler’s Park Trek. Especially if it were called Schindler’s Park Trek.
The teaser showed before Iron Man 2 over the weekend, and there isn’t much …

SXSW 2010: Monsters
Directed by: Gareth Edwards
Starring: Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy
Review by: Britt Hayes
Six years ago, aliens invaded Mexico and they haven’t left. In fact, they’ve been multiplying. Every year they migrate, and during this time, it is unsafe to travel within the infected zone. Andrew Kaulder (McNairy) is a photo-journalist on a mission. His ordinary pictures of people, places, and things, don’t net him enough money. What his boss pays the big bucks for are pictures of depressing things like dead children, and what his boss wants right now are …

For years there has been discussion of a possible prequel or sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing. The Thing was itself a remake of the 1951 film, The Thing From Another World, which was in turn based on a novella by John W. Campbell Jr., titled Who Goes There? For a while it seemed no one knew which direction the new film would take. It was said that a sequel would follow MacReady’s brother, coming to the the remote Antarctic station to find out what happened to his …

Welcome to the final part of our first annual holiday gift guide. I’m going to run things down a little differently in this edition. In the DVD and Blu-ray sections, I’ll start with bargains, move to regular priced items, and then to boxed sets and pricey editions (if any). For books, it’ll just be a veritable mix of comic books, novels, and the like, priced lowest to highest. Let’s get started, shall we?

In this Vincent Price three-pack, you get the original House on Haunted Hill, The Bat, and …

October has been an insane month for horror releases, for obvious reasons. There have been some great titles, and some awesome surprises, but looking at the grand scope for this month’s releases, I find myself underwhelmed. Here we are in our last week, and I think it’s the best yet:

Black Devil Doll
Holy shit.  While the artwork screams blacksploitation in the 70′s, this film came out last year. Just watch the NSFW trailer over on Youtube. Trust me, it will change your fucking life. “He’s a lover! He’s a …

First there was The Blair Witch, and now we are finally moving past Paranormal Activity. Just around the corner? The Fourth Kind. Get ready for the hype, because it’s coming. Hold that thought. It’s here. I just moments ago became “followed” by their official Twitter page. I’m a nice guy. I followed them back.
Instead of relying on strange witchy happenings in the woods, or house hauntings, (you know, anything of an earthly sort) The Fourth Kind, from Universal, takes us to a …

The Screamfest official website has released the full 2009 line up. The film festival is taking place at Grauman’s Chinese Theater at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles from October 16th to the 25th.
You can visit the Screamfest site for a full line up, including short films, tickets, and more information.
A few films on the list immediately grab my attention. The Human Centipede focuses on a famous Siamese twin surgeon and his bizarre idea to remove the knee caps of people, and connect them ass to …

Feast III: Sloppy Seconds continues the saga that originated with the Project Greenlight season 3 winner John Gulager.  Once again, we’re up to our eyeballs in alien grotesqueries, minus the cat fucking this time around.  Honey Pie makes her return to the forefront of the action, having survived the second installment …

Picture yourselves taking a late evening stroll about your friendly neighborhood supermarket, picking up a few items for dinner, or maybe just some Ben & Jerry’s for a late night snack.  Perhaps you’re the cashier who’s about to get off your long shift for the night when without warning a …
