A-mer-i-ca, Fuck Yeah! Now get ready for some heavy hitting gutteral horror with Red, White, and Blue, the newest film from Simon Rumley. I was first introduced to Simon Rumley’s work with his incredible film The Living and the Dead (review here). It was a gripping and visceral experience in horror, as it was heavily grounded in the concrete, the real. Very rarely is that so competently accomplished in horror these days. ...

Frozen director Adam Green
Interview conducted by Britt Hayes – January 2010
Adam Green is a fantastic director who has brought us brutal films like Spiral and Hatchet. His latest film, Frozen, is an intense survival-horror drama that premiered at Harry Knowles’ (Aint it Cool News) annual Butt-Numb-a-Thon at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. I wrote a glowing review back in December, and positively jumped at the chance to interview Adam. Since this interview was so long (and so awesome), we split it into two parts.
Ladies and gents, I give you part ...

When I was younger, I didn’t care much for Scorsese films. Truth is, I didn’t understand them because there was some level of maturity there that was beyond my comprehension. As an adult, I’ve come to know and love each of his films (some more than others – Casino is my favorite), and I find that with ...

I was at the Aint it Cool News/Alamo Drafthouse-hosted Butt-Numb-A-Thon XI in Austin this past weekend, and Adam Green was on hand to premiere his latest effort, Frozen. I will have a review to you guys this week on that fantastic film, but until then, the poster has been unveiled at Shock Til You Drop. I can tell you that quote from Harry Knowles is true: the film is scary and fucking intense. More on that later when I give you the full review.

I have to post this. There’s just no way around it. Christmas Evil is bar none my favorite Christmas horror slasher film of the season. It’s a John Waters-esque cautionary tale that should be viewed by every child and unbelieving adult at Christmastime, and though shockingly light on the gore, it’s flat out loads of fun. That’s right, you better watch out, because if you’re naughty Santa is comin’ to getcha!

I knew next to nothing about Macabre when I walked into it, save for what I read in the Fantastic Fest program guide. That being said, the bloody picture advertising it was all I really needed to know. I love slow-burning character horror like no one else, but I also love blood and gore and Macabre delivers violence to the extreme.

Fantastic Fest ’09 Review: The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)

Cast: Dieter Laser, Akihiro Kitamura, Andreas Leupold, Ashley C. Williams

The Human Centipede is a sick, twisted piece of cinema. When I first heard about it, I was so excited because it sounded so disturbingly unique and refreshing in a way that could, possibly, even push me to my limit. I can stand pretty much anything, but the plot of this one is pretty damn disgusting.

Reviewing this film is like trying to fathom something you know you can’t possibly understand. Just when I felt like I was getting a handle on what the film was saying or doing, I would encounter yet another image or sound that made me rethink myself. That is, in essence, what I love about Antichrist – it is simultaneously baffling and addicting, intriguing and disgusting. I would caution readers that ...

The final day of Fantastic Fest was a good day, even if I was only able to cram two screenings in. So. Tired.
Sweet Karma: This was one that immediately caught my eye when I was looking at the Fantastic Fest lineup. I’m always interested in revenge stories, but the idea of a revenge film with a female lead had me really intrigued. Sweet Karma is a compelling drama about a mute woman who fights against members of the Canadian sex trade (believe it or not, that’s real) for killing her sister. Very low budget, the film does have its problems – rough editing, ...
