Trick ‘r Treat 2 On The Cards
By Keri O’Shea
Well, here’s some good news. It won’t be around until next Halloween in all likelihood, but it seems like a second Trick’r Treat will be coming to our screens in the hopefully not-too-distant future. Like many horror fans, I thoroughly enjoyed the first film; it used the portmanteau format brilliantly, mingled common folklore, movie monsters and a sense of fun in its tales and even brought us a neat new horror character – in the form of Sam, the mean little guy who links the yarns together. Well, Sam will be back too to host the next batch of stories…
Director Michael Dougherty, speaking to Fangoria today, said: “I can definitely say that we’ll be exploring Sam more and maybe getting into some back story of who and what he actually is.” It will be interesting to see how that works in terms of keeping the character at the distance which makes him an effective figure. In terms of the stories themselves, Dougherty explains, “There are different archetypes I’d like to explore, different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but there’s a whole slew of different creatures out there that we haven’t tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think it’s time to let them have their time in the sun.”
Sounds good to me. Hell, I am well-disposed to anything which isn’t the obligatory Halloween Paranormal Activity cobblers, so any film which bothers to have a story and characters is already streets ahead. The first flick has already become something of a Halloween institution in the few short years that it’s been around, so it’ll be really good to have Sam back for another bout. And, if you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what all the fuss is about, check out the Trick’r Treat trailer. We want more of this, right?
