Short Film Makers – Brutal As Hell Wants You!
by Keri O’Shea
As an enthusiastic film festival attendee – currently looking forward to making my yearly pilgrimage to the Abertoir Film Festival in Wales – one of the real highlights for me has to be the short films programme. In fact, some of my favourite films of the last five years have been shorts. With time so restricted, filmmakers have to be ingenious: indeed, I’ve seen greater innovation and ambition inside ten minutes than in a lot of feature-length projects.
And yet, for those who don’t attend festivals, there’s probably little idea of any of this. Sadly, short films don’t tend to get commercial releases; this means that a lot of the best work out there doesn’t find the audience it deserves. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, it can be tricky to track the best stuff down on Youtube, if the filmmaker in question has made their work available there at all. Essentially, a lot of top class horror filmmaking is going unseen by people who would get the most out of it. This is something I hope we can change at Brutal As Hell.
You see that section over there, on the right – Horror in Short? Let’s get that section busy again. If you are a filmmaker and you would like to get your short film reviewed and featured on the site, add a comment below: leave your email address (all comments are screened) and we’ll be in touch to make it happen. Ideally, we’d like to be able to embed the film on the site too – we want to get your work seen and appreciated. If that sounds like something you could go for, drop us a line.
