Carve Yourself a Witch – it’s the Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Trailer
by Ben Bussey
They’ve come here to munch gingerbread and kick ass. And they’re all out of gingerbread. (Seriously, they should use that line on the poster.)
I’ve been excited about Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters since it was announced way back in January 2011, and though it’s been a delayed release – originally scheduled for this summer, it’s not due now until 2013 – it’s always sounded like great fun, and now it looks it too. Sure, this new Spanish trailer highlights the expected Gilliam’s Brothers Grimm vibe by way of Pan’s Labyrinth, with more than a dash of Army of Darkness – but the word is the end product will be definite R territory. If it’s half as deliriously gory as Wirkola’s splatstick breakthrough Dead Snow, it won’t take a trail of breadcrumbs to lead me to the cinema. Oh, and if I really need to say it – Gemma Arteton and Famke Janssen? Threeway fantasy central…
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters hits cinemas in the US and most of Europe in January, then Ireland and the UK in March. (Well how do you like that, my fellow Brits? They’re making us wait for once. And we’ve grown so accustomed to getting all the big movies first.)
Thanks to Twitch for the scoop.
Update: now it’s the official greenband English language trailer. Identical but without them pesky Spanish subtitles.
