Batshit trailer of the day: Raaz 3

Yes, it’s yet another oddball trailer for a mental-looking movie that we have the good folks at Twitch to thank for bringing to our attention. This time, however, it addresses a discrepancy in Brutal as Hell’s horror coverage: to date, I don’t believe we have ever reported on an Indian horror film. Well, I’m not even going to deny it – I didn’t even know horror films got made in India. But evidently they do, as this is the third installment in the Raaz series; which, as I may have already made clear, I was hitherto completely oblivious of. But based on this trailer, I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of Indian horror, because this looks pretty off the wall.

Now, there’s one point I must make absolutely clear. Based on the trailers we tend to post – many of which we are first exposed by Twitch, funnily enough – you might think we’ll write about any weird-looking film just because it stars hot Japanese actresses. This is categorically not the case.

We’re quite happy to write about any weird-looking film that features hot Indian actresses too.

But seriously – I like the look of this trailer. It seems like a sexier version of Drag Me To Hell. And words cannot describe my joy at learning the lead actress Bipasha Basu was the star of a movie called Jism, which is about to get a sequel starring US porn star Sunny Leone. Yes, really. Jism. These are films getting mainstream cinema release in India. How have I never heard more about this stuff?!

Raaz 3 is released to cinemas across the world in September. I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to see it but I really wouldn’t mind doing so. It looks like it could be a blast, and by comparison with most contemporary English language horror a bit of a break from the norm.

Synopsis: Set against the backdrop of the glitz, lights, glamour and back-stabbing cruelty of the entertainment world, a fading movie diva Shanaya (Bipasha Basu) turns to black magic to thwart an upstart young starlet Sanjana (Esha Gupta) on her way to usurp the position Shanaya once held. Sanjana ruthlessly turns against the girl, using her lover Aditya (Emraan Hashmi), a man who owes her his career, as a pawn. Things go awry when Aditya falls in love with Sanjana and vows to protect her against the evil that is consuming all of them.

No subtitles, but I don’t think that’s much of a problem. Oh, and I’ll eat my shorts if you don’t break out a genuine LOL at 1.44.

  • Deaditor says:

This is the 3rd one? Why are we already two films behind the ball on this? Better late than never, I guess. Eating shorts? I’ll just eat some Indian, if you please.

  • J Hurtado says:

This will be a worldwide release. I don’t know about Indian cinema in the UK outside of London, but if you’re there, chances are you’ll be able to catch it. The films are not really related, so you won’t miss much if you haven’t seen the first two chapters.
