I’ve been on this massive Lovecraft kick lately thanks to Annie Riordan (bitch). So, it’s with great pleasure I make this announcement. It would seem that the distribution gods have finally gotten off their fat lazy asses, swollen from consuming too many bags of Cheetos, and managed to release on Blu-ray one of the best goddamn H.P. Lovecraft adaptations cinema has ever seen. Yes ladies and germs, Stuart Gordon’s splatterific masterpiece, Re-Animator, is coming home in sickeningly glorious high-def this fall, from Image Entertainment.

September 4th is the official date and right now this looks to be a straight-forward upgrade of the existing 2-Disc Anchor Bay DVD released back in 2007. We’re not sure if all the extra features from that release will be ported over, and there’s no word on whether there will be any new features, but we’re making the safe assumption that there will not be. Of course, we’ll be updating you on that if there are.

Now, I must admit, I feel almost stupid having to regurgitate an “official synopsis” for you all. I know you’re all intimately familiar with this flick already. (And if you aren’t then you should stop what you’re doing, go out immediately and watch this film — FYI – it’s available in full length on YouTube if you’re really hard up and feel like searching around for it.) But at any rate – here it is (with some embellishments):

Herbert West (Jeffrey “I’m a fuckin’ demi-god” Combs) is obsessed with the idea of bringing the dead back to life. Experimenting with a glowing green fluid, he successfully reanimates dead tissue. Unfortunately, the dead are uncontrollable and difficult to subdue. (Including one crazed zombie cat!) Dr. Carl Hill, West’s instructor, is determined to steal his secret and take all the credit for the discovery. Herbert isn’t willing to give it up so easily no matter what the consequences are! Stylishly directed by Stuart Gordon (From Beyond), and featuring the eternally sexy Barbara Crampton as Megan Halsey, this film adaptation of the short story “Herbert West: Reanimator” is a non-stop gore-fest filled with wit and humor and the most outrageous snatch snacking scene put to film!
