‘American Mary’ Trailer Cuts Deep

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume you’ve heard of this film by now. It’s the sophomore effort from Jen and Sylvia Soska, writer/director team behind microbudget cult hit Dead Hooker In A Trunk. It’s set to have its UK premiere at FrightFest in August. Nia caught the world premiere at Cannes, and called it “a stylish, artful and darkly funny tragedy” and “the most original film I’ve seen for a very long time.”

Curious? You’re not alone.

The main thing I get from this trailer: damn, it’s good to see Katherine Isabelle back in the spotlight. Hard to believe it’s been over a decade since Ginger Snaps, and it’s such a crying shame that she didn’t get the roles she deserved in the immediate aftermath of that tour de force. From the looks of things, she may be finally getting what’s due her. This looks like a slick and unusual production indeed, and as Nia promised lightyears removed from Dead Hooker.

I’m gutted that I won’t be there the day this plays at FrightFest, and I’m eager to see this film as soon as I can. How about you, fearless reader?
