‘The Walking Dead’ News: First Real Image of Michonne Surfaces
by Marc Patterson
In the post-season wrap-up talk Glen Mazzara and Robert Kirkman hinted to audiences that season three was going to get really crazy. We’ve spent two seasons watching our survivors deal with coping through the day to day of a post-apocalyptic realm. Now they’re going to meet the katana sword wielding Michonne, who has not only learned how to survive in the chaos, but has carved her own new rules for life after zombies.
It was pretty exciting to find out that Michonne would be played by Danai Gurira, but during the finale we never got a clear shot of her, only a brief glimpse of the iconic cloaked figure towing two armless zombies behind her on chains, like a couple of dogs on a leash. Entertainment Weekly got the first real shot of Gurira as Michonne (shown above), and I’m stoked to share it with you all.
In the article Kirkman gave readers a hint what they could expect from Michonne that might stand out as different from the comics, “The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics, but like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”
That’s fairly standard for all of the characters on the show, so no big surprises. But what really got me jazzed up was how he talked about the prison, “It looks absolutely amazing. They are shooting the hell out of this prison. It just looks absolutely stunning, and I think when people start seeing trailers and stuff for this season, I think people are just gonna be like, “Wait, what? This is what? I can’t believe this is a TV show!” It’s really creepy, really moody and it’s just gonna be really awesome.“
Well, if Kirkman is excited then I’m excited. The Walking Dead kicks back into gear this fall from AMC.
