Been a bit of a slow news week thus far. Thankfully we can always count on Twitch to open our eyes to something that bit different, such as this poster and trailer for Mask The Kekkou Reborn, which they premiered yesterday.

Now, if there’s one thing we can trust of the Japanese, it’s that they won’t beat about the bush, so to speak. I mean, look at this poster. Think how many times Hollywood marketing has posed its heroines that way (and if you need reminding of just how ubiquitous those butt-shots are, there’s a great article on the subject at over at Tor.com). Don’t tell me the marketing people on Avengers or Dark Knight wouldn’t have had Scarlett Johansson and Anne Hathaway bare-cheeked if only they could get away with it.

As is so often the case with J-sploitation, Mask The Kekkou Reborn is adapted from a Manga which I’ve never heard of and no bugger all about. The trailer is also in Japanese with no subtitles, so I’m buggered if I know what’s going on. But really – it’s a naked chick in a bunny mask getting up to her floppy ears in violence. And, so far as I can tell, it isn’t a remake of The Bunny Game. What else do you need to know?

Watch and enjoy. It’s actually not that NSFW, I’m sorry to say…

We have the anime series on DVD (Kekko Kamen, it’s known as there). Very bloody weird. Seems to consist of nothing more than a lousy student at a Japanese school getting stripped and chained to a wall every time she fails a test, and then getting rescused by this naked bird, the mysterious Kekko Kamen, who sometimes pauses to say, ‘I’m so embarrassed!’ before kicking some evil teacher ass.

  • Deaditor says:

That’s incredible on a whole new level of Japanese incredible-ness. No pun intended, but this strips away all of the wild effects and focuses in a more pure level of crazy – and then pours on some cruel brutality. Damn, I’m in.

  • John Mc says:

There was a live action film Kekko Kamen from 1991 that I have, looks like this is related..

    might be worth a look.
