What A Horrible Place

Hey cult cinema film geeks, there’s a new messageboard in town. It’s called A Horrible Place, and it’s a sickening den of depraved lowlifes talking about all kinds of nasty shit. If you like loathsome, ornery, vile and vulgar films like Ichi the Killer, Female Prisoner Scorpion, City of the Living Dead, etc. then you’re going to love this hellhole.

Now we know what you’re thinking; why in the world, in the day and age of social media, would anyone start a messageboard? What are we going to do next, start publishing zines? How incredulous! Well, we thought about this and here’s the official response. Call it our mission statement (crafted by founder Mr. David Anthony of Couchcutter.com):

Many would question the necessity of a messageboard in this age of Twitter, Facebook, and other social media tools… We questioned it too.

But the fact is, the latest advances in social media favor swift, fleeting conversation. From a discussion standpoint, a Facebook post has about 24 hours to live, while a Tweet’s life is considerably shorter than that. Sometimes this works, other times it doesn’t.

Cult / Horror / Exploitation fans and bloggers are spread out all over the net, and it sucks when you miss an interesting tweet or Facebook update. If you aren’t online when it posts, then you’re basically shit out of luck. We wanted a place where news would get seen when it is posted… Where a film discussion could last longer than 140 characters at a time… Where catching an interesting topic is not a game of Russian Roulette…

So in the throes of frustration, we created a Horrible Place where a community of genre-loving, Hollywood-hating film fans could exercise deeper discussion, post articles and news (many of us run genre sites of our own), and build stronger bonds with each other.

That’s right – a lot of us in there right now run our own sites. In less than 24 hours it’s turned out to be a great way to trade resources, talk shop, and dig further beneath those quick news posts you see on our front pages. Wow… who’d have thought that even websites have “behind the scenes” action going on?

So get in on it today. Click on over, sign up, introduce yourself and start posting away. It’s the best time suck of 2012.
