J-sploitation Goes Scat: ‘Zombie Ass’ Trailer

Man, we really couldn’t have timed our Japanese Exploitation month better, could we? Somebody up there likes us. The planets have alligned, and the Gods of Bad Taste have bestowed upon us gift upon gift: first the Rape Zombie trailer, then the Red Sword trailer, and now the trailer for Noboru Iguchi’s Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead. Be still my pulsating gag reflex.
The official synopsis, if we really need one, goes like this: “A mad scientist conducts experiments on alien parasites and zombies in turn. Will karate save the day, or…fart power? Ass-obsessed madman Noboru Iguchi creates the most crap-tastic zombie movie ever to emerge from Japan’s cinema sewer.” Another day at the office for Noboru Iguchi, then; and frankly, after yawning through the more experimental but painfully dull Tomie Unlimited, I’m eager to see him and his eternal co-hort Yoshihiro Nishimura back on familiar turf. Much like Wolverine, they’re the best at what they do, and what they do isn’t very nice.
Sidestepping any ruminations about the quality of the film itself, must say I do like the way this trailer is cut together; a very old-school video nasty vibe about it, what with the abundance of ‘censored’ shots which promise something the like of which we’ve never seen… and for once, that might actually be true. Or perhaps we’ve just never wanted to see a movie in which zombies don’t just eat you, but also throw shit at you and fart in your general direction.
Other than that – painfully sexy Japanese women? Check. At least one of them in a schoolgirl outfit? Check. Gore aplenty, even if a fair portion of it looks to be low-rent CGI? Check. Only things missing are a kimino, a samurai sword and some gratuitous shots of the Tokyo Tower, but we can overlook that this once. Let’s roll.
