‘Stitches’ Ain’t Clowning Around, First Image Revealed
by Marc Patterson
As a rule we’re not prone to make posts that center on a “first clip” or “first official still”. For the most part that’s just another form of meaningless hype. But in the case of Stiches, I’m willing to break our rule – or at least bend it a bit. The film just sounds interesting, at least to the degree that I feel like supporting the folks at Dark Sky, who have consistently put out quality horror films. Here’s what they’ve sent us – to include a watermark free image, which you can click on to see in all its glorious high resolution.
Stiches is a Dark Sky Films original production in partnership with Fantastic Films and the Irish Film Board. Shooting wrapped this weekend in Dublin. The film stars popular British Comedian, Ross Noble and Tommy Knight of Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures and is directed by Conor McMahon (Disturbed, Dead Meat). Stiches is the macabre story of Richard ‘Stitches’ Grindle, a jaded workaday kids’ birthday clown, whose one-liners are witty in a way that’s just not for kids. Stitches falls victim to a fatal party mishap at the hands of a group of particularly nasty children. Years later, the group of now teenagers attend a party at which Stitches is the uninvited guest of honor, returning to avenge his untimely death.
The movie is the latest original production coming from MPI Media Group’s Dark Sky Films, whose recent productions include The Innkeepers, Stake Land, Hatchet 2, and upcoming Hatchet 3 and Frankenstein’s Army. Dublin’s Fantastic Films, run by John McDonnell and Brendan McCarthy, has produced many successful genre films, including Hammer Films’ Wake Wood and Outcast. The film is also being produced with finance help from the Irish Film Board.
