Cryptic ‘Cabin In The Woods’ Poster Confounds and Confuses!
Is it a lost MC Escher? A new Lament Configuration? The must-have toy of Christmas 2011? Nope, it’s the new poster for the long-delayed The Cabin In The Woods, which premiered today over at Ain’t It Cool.
It’s fair to say this is pretty far removed from the initial teaser poster (left) which appers to show – funnily enough – a cabin in the woods. What this means we can expect from the film, I have no idea, but at the link above Harry Knowles goes to some detail as to why we might genuinely expect something a little out of the ordinary.
To regurgitate the synopsis from Lionsgate: “Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out. Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.”
A fairly oestentatious description, and a fairly oestentatious poster. We probably shouldn’t expect anything less from a Whedon production, wherein emphasising the creator’s superior intellect is always paramount. (And I say that as a fan, so please don’t get up in arms Browncoats.) But hey – it’s a mainstream horror movie that isn’t a sequel or remake, so for that alone it warrants attention.
Lionsgate will be releasing The Cabin in the Woods (having picked up the distribution rights from poor ol’ struggling MGM) on April 13th 2012. Then we’ll see if it’s really as enigmatic as all that.
