‘Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2’ Gets NC-17 Rating – Congratulations to Rob Hall and Co.

I feel like we’re constantly pouring criticism on today’s gutless filmmakers, out for a quick cash-grab and to rape horror fans of their hard-earned dollars at the box office. To a point, we need to. It’s our job to cut through the bullshit and separate the men from the boys, so to speak. Personally, I find it nice to see a filmmaker step it up and not play safe for once. The MPAA has handed down an NC-17 rating on Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2. To director Rob Hall and his awesome FX company Almost Human we applaud you.
DreadCentral reports the Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 is “riddled with some of the most insane bits of violence and kills we’ve ever seen“. While in light of the cringeworthy rating I’d love to believe that quote you’ll have to forgive my cynicism, but I feel like they say that about a lot of gore flicks. I retort – Is this going to top Necromantik, Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, A Serbian Film, or Nacho Cerda’s Aftermath? I’ll stop myself there and hold off on any hyperbole until I’ve seen the uncut version.
What we DO know for sure, is what Hall goes on to tell DC: “I think it’s great the MPAA had a problem with almost every kill in the film. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t have done our jobs correctly. They have a job to do, and so do I … and luckily Image [Entertainment] has been super supportive and has committed to releasing the film UNRATED and on Blu-ray, which makes me happy. Just to clarify, there will be a rated R cut as well, but I think most outlets will prefer the hardcore unrated cut … I know I do.“
I don’t know about you, but I like that quote better as I plan on seeing Chromeskull the way it is meant to be seen – on Blu-ray – UNCUT with ALL the blood and guts.
Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 has a September 20, 2011 for both DVD and Blu-ray.
