US Trailer for ‘We Are The Night’, IFC’s Latest Genre Offering

by Marc Patterson
It’s almost time for We Are The Night, a pulse thumping German vampire flick to hit American shores, all courtesy of IFC Films. When we first caught the German language trailer back in 2010 our reaction was immediate: The Lost Boys meets The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. “Sexy, stylish, full of great pounding music and rockin’ scenes”, were my exact words. My words are no different now than then, except I might further qualify that it’s more like The Lost Boys for the ladies.
According to IFC, We Are The Night explores nighttime in Berlin to find a sect of seductive lady vampires that hide out in the city’s alternative clubs and enjoy the luxury and pleasures their attained immortality provides them. A stylized vision of female vampirism, closer to films like The Hunger or the TV series True Blood than to Twilight, We Are the Night differs from other films present this year in Sitges because it gives the myth an image of sensuality, charisma and attraction, playing especially on fascination for the night. A fascination that Gansel uses almost paroxysmally to exploit the German capital’s nighttime atmospheres.
We Are The Night hits theaters (limited) on May 20th and rolls out to most VOD providers on May 25th. Look for our review to follow.
In the meantime, check out the brand spankin’ new trailer…
