Slash & Dine vs. Return of the Living Dead

They’re back from the grave and ready to party!

Return of the Living Dead is fucking awesome. If you’ve seen it, then you already know that, but for those of you that haven’t, let us elaborate. At a small medical supply warehouse, new employee Freddy gets the full tour of the facility from his boss, Frank, including a peak at the undead corpses that were mistakenly delivered there back in the ‘60s. The two accidently unleash a toxic gas into the air & set free the mummified zombies. Not only are they trying to survive the living dead, but now they’re trying to fight off becoming ones themselves. Along the ride, Freddy’s punk rock gang of friends run into the brain hungry pack and the killing ensues. With a highly entertaining story, a naked Linnea Quigley, a killer soundtrack with hits from The Cramps and Roky Erickson & of course, “braaaaaiin” eating zombies, this is absolutely one of our favorite flesh eating flicks. Since we’re not cannibals (yet), we’re bringing you a delicious blood red velvet cake recipe.

“BRAAAAAAAIIIIINS!” Red Velvet Cake
Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
3 Tbsp red food coloring
1 tsp vinegar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Cream cheese frosting – your favorite recipe, or canned frosting

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9×13 pan.

In a large bowl, mix the first 5 ingredients together. In another bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until combined. Add batter to pan and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cake cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan.

To decorate:
Cream cheese frosting – your favorite recipe (about 4 cups), or canned frosting (about 2 cans)
1 pound fondant
Assorted food coloring
Piping gel

To decorate the cake, cut into the shape of a head and bodice. Using cake scraps, add a nose, facial features, and boobs. Cut a circle for the zombie head, and scoop out a small piece for an eye socket. Frost the entire cake in cream cheese frosting, making sure to keep the frosting smooth. Dye about ½ pound of fondant a light peach color. Roll to 1/8 inch thick, and cover the girl part of the cake. Dye a smaller amount of the fondant grey and cover the zombie. You can also use the grey fondant to make a zombie hand and teeth. Use white fondant to make eyes for the girl and one eye for the zombie (you can paint his yellow with food coloring). Dye some cream cheese frosting red and pipe on hair for the girl. Using food coloring, paint on facial features, nipples, and zombie hair and scars. Use piping gel dyed red for blood. You can make your zombie as gross as you want by adding more gel or fondant.
