‘Hobo With A Shotgun’ to Go Theatrical as Soon as April?

by Marc Patterson
Hobo With a Shotgun has somehow charmed its way onto our “must see in 2011″ list. Jason Eisener’s insane creativity (have you seen Treevenge yet?) has made Hobo a film way too over the top to be passed up, and despite the overshadowing at Sundance from Red State and The Woman, I think that between all three, I’d just as soon see Hobo. While I wasn’t anticipating being able to see the film until later this year, possibly at Fantastic Fest this September (hint, hint Tim League), it looks like my chances for seeing it sooner than later (and yours as well) have significantly improved over the past twenty-four hours. In fact, if this news all pans out, there won’t be a need to show it at Fantastic Fest.
According to the official Facebook page for Hobo With a Shotgun it looks like Canada will be seeing the film on March 25th, with US and Europe soon to follow. The film was picked up back in December by Magnet Releasing, a division of Magnolia Pictures so we imagine what we’re now seeing are the final details for a VOD launch followed by a limited theatrical release in the US. That seems to be the standard MO for Magnet. We’re working on confirming this now and will provide some follow-up details. All good things folks. All good things…
Synopsis: A vigilante homeless man (played by Rutger Hauer) pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city’s crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how – with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation. Street justice will indeed prevail.
