‘The Day’ Makes Our “Must Watch” List for Post-Apocalyptic Horror in 2011
This was a bit of news that we missed from earlier in the month. I figured if it slid past us then perhaps you might have not caught wind of it either. In either case, tomorrow I’ll be talking to Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism) and in doing my prep work I discovered a new teaser trailer for her upcoming post-apocalyptic film The Day. The trailer just emerged earlier this month online exclusively at Bloody-Disgusting.com and Twitch.com.
Not much is currently known about the title aside that it’s pretty bleak looking (bleak like The Road). The trailer doesn’t let onto much either, except a guttural sinking feeling that whatever this is going to be, it’s not going to be a feel-good film. Needless to say we’ll be picking Ashley’s brain for any details she can share, though I’m sure she’s sworn to secrecy. The Day is written by Luke Passamore and directed by Doug Aarniokoski, two relatively unknowns in the world of horror. But the cast? The cast is looking pretty fuckin’ awesome with (aside from Ashley Bell) Dominic Monaghan, Shawn Ashmore, Shannyn Sossamon, and Cory Hardrict.
As the always consummate musician one thing I immediately noticed was that the music in the trailer was pretty sonically mind-blowing. My type of stuff for sure. Experimental, loud, crashing… I’m embarrassed to admit that I did not recognize the tune as one of Explosions In the Sky, even moreso since I own several of their albums. So props to Mr. Todd Brown at Twitch for picking up on that subtlety. Much respect. Let’s hope that the film sees this direction continue both in moodiness and choice of music. Easily one title going down on my “must watch” list.
