A New Sci-Fi Horror Flick Needs Your Help
Making movies isn’t an easy task. It’s time consuming, expensive, and then your film gets tossed out to a bunch of curmudgeonly critics and arm chair reviewers to do with it what they will. It’s part of the reason we’ve been taking ourselves to task, making sure that we’re giving independent films a solid shot to shine in the spotlight. There’s a big difference behind a studio backed remake and some independent filmmakers trying to bring an original vision to market.
If you happened to catch the phenomenal documentary on the Norwegian black metal movement Until the Light Takes Us from Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites, then you’re well aware of the talent of these two Brooklyn based filmmakers. If you haven’t yet seen it, make sure to check out our review of the film (here)and our interview with Audrey and Aaron (here).
Currently, they are embarking on their next adventure, a self-described “hot-button” sci-fi horror film as their first joint fictional feature. The project is simply called “The Egg” and they need your help in making this film a reality.
Here’s the official synopsis: A team of graduate students is working in an experimental science facility when the world goes silent. The people outside are either dead, or have vanished. The students and advisers have to figure out what’s happening before it’s too late. The longer it takes, the worse things get. The students are safe for now. But that’s about to change. Because something new has shown up, and it wants in.
As with their last film, The Egg will be stylish, disturbing and surprising.
“Science fiction and horror have always been where my core interest lies,” says Ewell. “The films that affected me most profoundly and shaped me as a person, a movie-goer and then director have always been science fiction and horror. The films in these genres that I saw as a child had a deep and lasting effect on me. Now it’s my turn to warp the minds of the young, or at least give them nightmares. It’s the least I can do to give something back.”
Aites adds, “Films are nearly impossible to get made. Right now we can use the momentum and success of Until The Light Takes Us to push another one through. Who knows, we may never get another shot to make a film, so we’re putting our efforts into the one that we’d most like to see brought to life on the big screen.”
Audrey and Aaron are bringing the same intense level of research and dedication to the subject matter to this new project and they’ve launched a Kickstarter page for people to show their support. And if you like, you can stop reading right now and go check that out. The Egg – Kickstarter Page
Here’s the deal – As of this post they have less than 60 days to reach their fundraising goal of $14,500, in an all-or-nothing proposition.
And because they recognize the need to reward their loyal friends and fans they are offering up an array of rewards for contributing that include t-shirts, storyboard art, props, and even set visits.
Along with Aites and Ewell, the page lists Nev Pierce, Editor-at-Large for Empire magazine, as a core part of the creative team. Also listed, as a science consultant, is Karen Schrock, Contributing Editor at Scientific American Mind.
Until The Light Takes Us will hit stores on Sept 28 via Factory 25, and you can find more info on that right here. And again, the Kickstarter Page for The Egg can be reached by clicking here: The Egg – Kickstarter Page
