Trailer for Adam Wingard’s Latest, ‘A Horrible Way to Die’
Adam Wingard is one of the few directors I’ve made a point to support at every turn, despite the fact that the majority of his films lean too much towards “art house” for the likings of most horror junkies. I really enjoyed Pop Skull, (review here), a phenomenal psychological horror film shot on a paltry $3,000. We just posted a couple of his ‘Laura Panic’ shorts not long ago. Back in March we got a look at his first production still from A Horrible Way to Die (here), and now, with the release of this superb white knuckler of a trailer I’m biting at the bit to see more. Yes, deep down inside I’m just an art-house junky, who has oddly found his way to horror.
The story is excruciatingly simplistic, which is one of the things I love about Wingard. His aesthetic is pure minimalist and he produces powerful results in maintaining it. The film follows an escaped murderer who is in pursuit of his ex-girlfriend, who has fled to a small town in order to start a new life. The official description goes on to tell us that “Wingard plays with narrative chronology, sound design and visual aesthetics.” If you’ve seen any of his work you can only assume that to be the case.
As a note of special interest, Brad Miska of Bloody-Disgusting.com serves as an associate producer, which is exciting as my initial reaction to this was some dumbfounded head scratching. Now my tune has changed a bit and I’m more curious for the end result than anything. I would also add that I applaud Mr. Miska for putting a stake into original and independent horror.
