‘The Dead’ Ask Us: So You Think You Can Shoot a Zombie Film?

You’ve heard us talking about The Dead for sometime (as far back as March of 2009 in fact – see here). But in case this is the first time you’ve heard from us then let’s catch you up. From the outset we described it as a bit of 28 Days Later meets Lucio Fulci’s Zombi 2 in South Africa, and that’s essentially what we’re hoping it’s going to be. (we have a couple really cool trailers here)

The synopsis goes something like this: After crashing off the coast, Lt Brian Murphy battles for survival across the vast terrrains of Africa in search for a way to get back to his beloved family. Joined by local military man Daniel Dembele who is also searching for his son, together both men join forces all the while battling against the ever present threat of the living dead!

Well, at long last we’re finally going to get to see the film at Film4′s FrightFest in London, which is fun for our ego, because not only will we have been amongst the first to tell you about the film, but we’ll be amongst the first to actually SEE the film.  Yay geek ego!

Herky jerky geekery aside, because that’s kinda lame all things said – we just got a cool clip this morning from via Howard J Ford, who is the producer/director of The Dead.  This video clip is exciting primarily because it’s NOT footage of the film.  See… I’m not a big fan of sharing actual film footage, aside from a trailer or two, prior to a films release.  It’s anti-climatic and tends to spoil the film.  The less I see, the better.

Howard tells us that this clip is “the first of 3 episodes of exclusive behind the scenes footage leading up to the world premiere of ‘The Dead’ at FrightFest in London & hopefully it gives you an insight on what a fucking nightmare it was trying to get even one shot of ‘The Dead’ in the can out there in Africa, let alone an entire move! I hope you enjoy it safe in your seats as, trust me, you would not have wanted to be there!! Also, the next 2 episodes have even more disgusting situations the crew had to face to get ‘The Dead’. on screen so stay tuned and hope to see you all at the premiere“.

Ummm… can we say ‘Fuck Yeah!’

So you think you can shoot a zombie film?  Well, let’s see what it took to shoot The Dead…
