Frozen is a cutting and harsh film, filled with moments of great tension and little relief… To say that Frozen is a stressful and intense film is an understatement.” These are just a few of the wonderful words of praise our editor Britt Hayes had to say about Adam Green’s Frozen when it premiered at the Butt Numb a Thon in Austin TX earlier this year. (full review here) Lucky for me I was also able to catch an advance screening of the film and sat in abject horror for the majority of the 93 minute run time. Frozen has been one of the rare treats served up this year, so while we normally keep our DVD release announcements to a minimum, this was one we certainly weren’t going to pass on.

Starring Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead remake, Wrong Turn), X-Men’s Shawn Ashmore and Emma Bell (Gracie), Frozen charts the nightmare of three snowboarders when they get stranded on a ski chairlift taking them to the last run of the day. When the ski patrol switches off the night lights, the threesome realize with growing panic and dread that they’ve been left behind, dangling high off the ground with no way down.

With the resort closed until the following weekend, and frostbite and hypothermia already setting in, the trio is forced to take desperate measures to escape off the mountain before they freeze to death. Once they make their move, they discover with horror that they have much more to fear than just the frigid cold. As they combat the unrelenting forces of nature and other unexpected obstacles, they start to question if their will to survive is strong enough to overcome the worst ways to die.

The standard definition DVD release of Frozen includes a feature-length audio commentary with the stars and filmmakers, four insightful behind-the-scenes featurettes, the theatrical trailer and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray™ adds all the DVD bonus features, plus an additional format-exclusive audio commentary with writer/director Adam Green, cinematographer Will Barratt and editor Ed Marx.
