You Have to Have Faith, Mr. Farrell – More Fright Night Remake Casting

The plot thickens on Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night remake. Not so long ago we learned that Anton Yelchin will be taking the pivotal role of Charley Brewster, the potentially paranoid adolescent who believes his new next door neighbour to be the undead. This was inspiring news. Even more inspiring is today’s news on who will be filling the shoes (and hopefully the V-neck sweater) of the vamp-next-door Jerry Dandridge. According to Deadline, it’s none other than Colin Farrell.

This is one of those times when it’s an actor I never would have thought of, but now that it’s been announced I see what perfect sense it makes. Farrell’s got that handsome and dangerous thing down, obviously. He’s also got tremendous range as an actor, as at home with the absurd as with the deadly serious. In short, I find it very hard to imagine him not doing this justice, so long as the script and director don’t let him down (as, alas, has so often been the case with Farrell: see Alexander, Phone Booth, The Recruit, SWAT, Daredevil… etc).

And as if that wasn’t enough, Deadline also informs that Toni Collette (Muriel’s Wedding, Little Miss Sunshine, United States of Tara) has been cast as Charley’s mother. Tell me this isn’t shaping up to be one of the best casts ever lined up for a horror remake. Get some actors of similar calibre for Peter Vincent, Amy, and Evil Ed, and this could rock the house.

Woah, someone slap me. I’m getting overly optimistic about a remake…
