Know the name John Skipp? If you don’t I’m not going to chastise you, because honestly I hadn’t myself until about two years ago. But if you’re not familiar with him, you’re missing out big time. One of the original splatterpunk writers, he collaborated with Craig Spector on a number of awe-inspiring 80′s horror novels including The Clean-Up and The Light At The End (plus the novelisation of Fright Night!), and in more recent years returned to writing, solo this time, with The Long Last Call. His film credits to date are a little less notable, contributing to the scripts of Nightmare On Elm Street 5 and Class of 1999, but it looks like things are about to change in that regard.

Dread Central got the scoop that Skipp has his first gig as writer/director with Rose. It’s set against a zombie apocalypse, but it sounds unconventional to say the least, and not just because it’s being shot in ‘real-time’ and 3-D. Newcomer Chase McKenna takes the lead, and FX are being handled by Robert Hall of Almost Human.

Check out Dread Central’s video of Skipp enthusing about the project below. If he can bring as much spirit, personality and balls to the screen as he can to the page, then it should be good times all around. They’re set to call action with the new Meduza 3-D camera this summer.
