Jason’s Gone Back to Hell: ‘Friday the 13th 2′ Cancelled!

The old slasher supervillians just can’t get a break at the moment, it seems. First Patrick Lussier’s Halloween 3-D fails to get beyond the drawing board, and now it’s come to light that the sequel to Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th reboot has also been shelved. And, as is rapidly becoming the norm, the scoop came from Twitter – one @Mayroth_Tucker3 asked Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes what was happening, to which Fuller’s reply was “it is dead – not happening.” Bloody Disgusting got further confirmation of this: “Right now there is no movement on Friday 13th: Part 2.“
Can’t honestly say this news comes as a great surprise, given that the intended release date had been August 13th (a Friday, funnily enough), and we’d heard pretty much zip on the project since November, when we reported that the sequel was set to be in 3-D. And I can’t honestly pretend to be too sad about this news either, given that I felt the remake was a major let-down. Still, it is a little surprising the sequel hasn’t taken off considering how much money Friday the 13th ’09 made. Then again, a Freddy Vs Jason sequel once looked a sure thing too.
