Hammer Films and Dark Horse Team Up: Horror Comic Nirvana?

A short but sweet bit of news for ya – Hammer Films announced today that they’re entering a partnership with Dark Horse Comics to “create a series of co-branded original graphic novels and comic books.” First on the agenda? That little movie you might have heard about called Let Me In.

From the press release:

While the storyline of the companion graphic novel is being kept under wraps, Dark Horse Comics and writer Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Predators) are working with Hammer to create a chilling and exciting comic that will incorporate some of the film’s characters and mythology with some fresh themes. The Let Me In graphic novel will be distributed in stores in conjunction with its theatrical release from Overture Films in October 2010.

I’m intriuged by this ‘storyline under wraps’ business: presumably this means we should not expect a direct retelling of the same story as told in the novel and movie/s. Does this mean sequel? Prequel? Some other spin-off? We shall see. Whilst I am yet to be entirely sold on this revived brand of Hammer Films, this is an encouraging move indeed. If it really needs to be said, Dark Horse are the absolute cream of the crop in modern comics, and if the new Hammer remain true to the spirit of old, the companies should fit together like a hand in glove. Or Christopher Lee in a cloak. Or Ingrid Pitt in a bodice.
