Sergio Leone Styled Western Horror in ‘Silver Moon’
I just got done watching the below five minute teaser trailer for upcoming horror western film Silver Moon and am not quite sure what I think. It’s got some serious potential that’s for sure, but I’m not a big fan of digitally enhanced gore and effect work. That reaction is probably more of a wishy washy feeling than director Travis Stevens would like to hear as his video page states that “If Sergio Leone made a horror movie, this would be it.” Sorry Travis, but I’m going to have to withhold judgment until I get a look at the finished product. The scene in choice takes place primarily around a campfire at night with something stalking in the dark. Rather cliche for a horror western, but could make a nice setup. I think that in order to sell an audience on the Leone angle there should have been more expansive daylight shots. The scene also reminded me of The Burrowers, a film which I really liked. Silver Moon has been shot on a RED ONE camera, all night shots were green screen composites, shot indoors. Silver Moon is written/directed by Travis Stevens. Shot by Carlos Gonzales. VFX by Jason Milligan. Sound by Ben Chan.
