Magnet Releasing to Give ‘[REC] 2′ A Theatrical Release
Magnet Releasing, who brought us one of the best films of 2009, Ti West’s The House of the Devil, as well as 2008′s undisputed favorite, Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In has picked up U.S. Distribution rights to Jaume Balagueró’s and Paco Plaza’s [REC] 2. Currently plans are to give the film a limited theatrical release for July of 2010, which will also see the film play to Magnolia/Magnet’s Ultra VOD program in June of 2010.
[REC] 2 picks up directly where the first film ended, back in the quarantined apartment building, filled with infected zombie like inhabitants. The local government is sending in a SWAT team in order to take out any survivors and neutralize the threat of further infection. Reviews from those who have seen the film seem to be positive thus far. I certainly had my doubts that this dynamic duo could pull of the feat of delivering the same level of terrifying horror that the original [REC] did. I suppose we’ll have to wait to make our final verdict until July. In the meantime check out the Spanish trailer below.
