As regular readers are well aware, there are times around here when we dip our toes into water that isn’t strictly horror, but only if that territory includes some high octane brutality and violent action. After all… we are Brutal As Hell, and have that reputation to maintain. Recently I got a press release for an upcoming British film called Harry Brown, slated to hit theaters stateside on April 30th. At first I saw Michael Caine’s name, saw that it wasn’t horror and schluffed it to the “get to later” pile, mainly because I had real horror stuff to attend to. But I’m glad I didn’t take long to revisit. I watched the trailer and was shockingly impressed. I’ve always been a fan of Michael Caine, but who would have known he had this in him? Dirty Harry, meet Harry Brown.

Synopsis: Two-time Academy Award® winner Michael Caine stars as Harry Brown, a man who reaches his breaking point and is forced to take the law into his own hands when a gang of local teenagers brutally kills his best friend. Harry Brown finds Caine revisiting his roots from the classic crime thrillers Get Carter and The Italian Job as a dangerous force to be reckoned with. Set in modern day Britain, Harry Brown follows one man’s journey through a chaotic world where teenage violence runs rampant. As a modest, law abiding citizen, Brown lives alone. His only companion is his best friend Leonard. When Leonard is killed, Brown reaches his breaking point. Harry Brown is a powerful, character driven thriller starring two-time Academy Award® winner Michael Caine in a tour-de-force performance.
