Zombie Outbreak in Chile! Trailer for New Film, ‘Blind Dead’ (Muerte Ciega)
by Marc Patterson
South America might not be the first place you think of when you talk about hot scenes for horror filmmaking, but I have consistantly been pleased with what I’ve seen coming out of there over the past few years. First there was Adrián García Bogliano’s Rooms For Tourists, which was followed up by 36 pasos (36 Steps), and more recently by No moriré sola (I’ll Never Die Alone), which has yet to be released in the US. Last year was PVC-1, an ultra realistic gritty film shot in one continuous take. We’ve been reporting on the upcoming Uruguayan film La Casa Muda, a film shot on digital SLR camera, also in one continuous shot. Now comes another film from South America (not filmed in one continuous shot) called Muerte Ciego, or in English “Blind Dead”, and I must admit, it looks just as damn good as the rest of these films.
Synopsis: Chile, december 2009 – After a mining disaster, a large area is ravaged by a strange virus that turns humans into a violent and territorial animals. The area is placed in quarantine, not knowing what happened. Years later a group of mercenaries and scientists is sent to investigate the truth about the zone.
