Toss On Some Long-Undies… It’s ‘Hypothermia’!
by Marc Patterson
Hey check it out! Today I got a couple of not-too-telling photos from the set of Dark Sky Film’s latest, Hypothermia, which just wrapped production earlier today, whilst in the middle of a good old Nor’ Easter in upstate NY. (By the way, what’s with all the outdoorsy North East horror flicks lately? I’m not complaining. I’m just sayin’).
I joked with the rep who forwarded this along saying “Better you than me” out there. Personally speaking, I was in an ice fishing derby once when I was like 12 years old in the Boy Scouts, and I can tell you what – I don’t care how much clothing you have on out there, when you’re standing on ice in a wide open space like that, with absolutely nothing between you and the wind, it’s what I like to call ballsack cold. (That’s when it’s so cold your balls shrivel on up inside.) Two words: Fuck that. I love the winter, but I stay the hell off the ponds, and if for any reason I have to go out there… you better be bringing beer.
I’m told that “a large portion of the production took place on the middle of a frozen lake – Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield, NY. The production team spent weeks filming on the ice, having to take snow mobiles / four wheelers out to the actual set – making it a challenge to even grab a cup of coffee or use the restroom. Rooker and the rest of the cast were real troopers!”
Well, again – better them than me. Rooker obviously has balls of steel. And a restroom? C’mon… just wander off a few yards and let it go. Just make sure you’re not downwind.
Okay… enough cracks about the outdoors. I’m starting to sound like a flippin’ redneck.
Alright – it’s synopsis time… “Hypothermia takes place in Maine in the dead of winter. Ray Pelletier and his wife Helen have been ice fishing the frozen expanse of Lake Noyade for over two decades but this year something is different: no fish bite. Is it their new neighbors on the ice — Stevie Jr. and his overbearing Dad — with their high-tech gear and over-sized rig that is driving the fish away? Or is it something else? The answer comes in an onslaught of ferocious attacks that unites the two families against a mysterious creature from under the ice.”
Producers on the film include Dark Sky Film’s Derek Curl, Jacob Jaffke and Glass Eye Pix producers Peter Phok and Larry Fessenden.
Enjoy the photo’s below if you like shots of people freezing their nuts off, or snowy lakes. (or don’t) See if I care.
