Scouse Terror! ‘Salvage’ Coming To UK DVD/Download/Select Cinemas
Having spent almost a decade of my life in Liverpool, I can attest to there being some scary places and scary people in that neck of the woods. Still, generally I never had to put up with anything worse than being woken in the night by loud-mouthed drunks and/or their godawful music. I certainly never experienced anything quite so startling as a gun-toting military unit storming the street and sealing it off, without any explanation as to why. But that’s precisely the situation in Salvage, a new movie from first-time feature director Laurence Gough coming to us via Revolver Entertainment, and if the word is to believed this is really one to look out for. As the press release tells us:
“…the film has already thrilled audiences at the London Frightfest, the Edinburgh Film Festival and at Texas’s prestigious Fantastic Fest where the film’s star Neve Mcintosh was rewarded with the Best Horror Actress Award.
Shot by Director of Photography Simon Tindall (Bright Star; The Queen, 28 Days Later) on location in and around Merseyside and on the set once used for the popular TV drama series ‘Brookside’, this highly effective shocker is one of the best British horror movies to come along in years.”
“SALVAGE IS NOT JUST A CRACKING THRILLER. IT’S ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT FILMS ABOUT FEAR I HAVE EVER SEEN.”
– THE TIMES.
Okay, we usually expect at least a little hyperbole from a press release, but this is high praise indeed. If it really is that good, then it’s a damn shame it isn’t getting a widespread cinema release. You’ll get my opinion soon enough; look out for my review next week.
Salvage is released to select UK cinemas, plus Sky Box Office, iTunes and LoveFilm on 19 March, then on DVD three days later.
