Ghouls On Film – A Women In Horror Recognition Month Event
by Ben Bussey
UK readers take note – this is what our American friends call a ‘heads-up!’ This coming Saturday, Birmingham’s Custard Factory plays host to Ghouls On Film, a one-day festival to mark Women In Horror Recognition Month organised by Nia Edwards-Behi (who was recently interviewed at Fatally Yours, and a good read it is too.) I will be there along with many more UK horror fans to show our appreciation for independent horror and the women working in it.
The line-up is as follows:
“Starting at 3pm is an hour of short films, including films by Amanda Boyle, Paula Haifley, Faye Jackson, Melanie Light and a brand new short by Maude Michaud – and possibly one or two others still to come!
There will be TWO feature films screening for your pleasure: Kate Glover’s outback slasher Slaughtered, and the UK PREMIERE of the Soska Sisters’ Dead Hooker in a Trunk!
In addition to all this filmic goodness, very special guest Emily Booth will be in attendance and giving us a peek at her brand new webseries, Behind the Screams!”
Yes – Emily Booth. With those words, my editor and our entire heterosexual male readership (and I daresay a fair percentage of the rest) give a warm sigh. Alas, I can only shudder at the memory of my feeble attempt to interview her a while back.
Anyway, for more details and to book tickets check out the Ghouls On Film blogspot and Facebook page. If you’re going, see you there – if not, look for our report on the event in the coming week.
Editors note: And now… because we can’t help ourselves, and on behalf of Emily Booth – we salute Women in Horror!
