Women In Horror Month on Brutal As Hell!

Women in Horror

by Marc Patterson

First thing you’re going to notice about this post? It’s being written by a male. Yep. That’s right. I’m just another white male in horror, and I run a website. So la-de-freakin’-da. What with all the female bloggers out there supporting each other and celebrating Women in Horror month a post like this seems downright contrived and a bit like a cheap cash-in for some attention. But you know what? You’re dead wrong. You see, while I’ve worked my ass off in building a website that tons of folks will want to come to time and again, I consider myself to be one lucky bastard. Because there’s no way I could have done this alone. If you click on over to our about page you’ll find three wonderful ladies, all of whom labor in the shadows and hardly get the attention they deserve, simply because this site is run by a guy. Unfortunate, but true. So let’s take a second and meet the gals and then I’ll get into what we’re actually going to do for February!

I’ll start with Annie. Annie is my sister from another mother. We first started reviewing films together years ago and when I started this site she was the first person I called. She’s not the type of gal to make a big deal of herself, and is just as happy to lurk in the shadows, but she just churns out an endless amount of reviews week after week, often sitting through the most horrid of films, and not only that but she’s the author of our most popular original column – Cinematic Haunts.

Next up is Britt Hayes. Britt is one of our newer team members, but one I rely on heavily. Britt not only edits a ridiculous amount of my grammatical errors, but she also dishes out news items with a level of intelligence and insight that raised the bar for how we report news, and challenges the dry and fact driven style that dominates most bigger news sites. Simply said – she’s indispensable.

Finally is our newest gal, Shannon. What can I say about Shannon? She has come into our crazy little horror family with fury! Taking over our highly original column (and the only one of its kind) Slash & Dine, only last month in December she has already made herself a force to be reckoned with. This girl knows her horror and she knows her way around a kitchen.

So for Women in Horror month I’m taking time to chat with each of these ladies and interview them, giving them some much deserved attention in the horrorsphere. Don’t expect dry dull questions like “What got you into horror?” We’re getting real with these ladies and you’re going to enjoy it, I promise.

What else are we doing? Well I’m glad you asked. Recently I made a post entitled “Ladies We Love”, which featured Radha Mitchell, who has been an underscored female in the world of horror. In February you can look for more of these articles, which will highlight the ladies in horror we’ve come to admire and respect.

So keep it tuned in. It’s going to be a fun time and we hope you’re in for the ride.

And hey – while you’re at it check out the official Women in Horror Month website!
