Coming February 8th from Showbox Home Entertainment is Long Weekend, a remake of a 1978 ‘Aussie horror cult classic.’

Details from the press release:
‘When an unhappily married and recently estranged city couple Peter (Jim Caviezel – The Passion of the Christ) and Carla (Claudia Karvan – Daybreakers) set off for a long weekend camping in a remote but picturesque spot on Australia’s North Coast with Peter’s friend Luke and his girlfriend, they are hoping that a few days of sun, surf and solitude will help heal their marital wounds… but as the weekend progresses, and their personal relationship deteriorates further, they become aware of an unseen, almost malevolent force of nature acting against them…’

I must sadly confess to be totally unaware of the original, but from the premise and the trailer this looks to be a promising enough idea; rural survivalist horror with a whiff of the supernatural. If nothing else it should have some novelty value for Caviezel playing Australian; I mean, I could name plenty Australian actors who’ve played American, but just how often does an American play Australian? If he doesn’t call anyone a “flaming gallah” or tell someone to “rack off,” I’ll be sorely disappointed.

Anyway, courtesy of our good friends at The Associates, we’ve got three DVDs up for grabs. Once again, these are Region 2 DVDs and as such we can only open the competition to UK readers. And as a lot of people went all shy when I asked them to tell a dirty joke to win Silent Night Deadly Night, I’ll keep it even simpler this time.
