The Winter Just Got Colder Thanks to Nazi Zombies in ‘Dead Snow’!

“Outlandish, Over-the-Top, and Non-Stop Entertainment”. Those are words from my original review of Dead Snow and words I’ll stand by. Now finally, many months later we get to bring the zany insanity home on February 23 thanks to IFC and MPI Media Group. That’s right. Just moments ago I got the official press release and I must admit… I’m pretty psyched for this release for a variety of reasons. The first is that I was never able to properly catch Dead Snow in theaters. I was only able to catch it, as many of us did, as a part of IFC’s VOD service. This meant no HD and pathetic dubbed English. Nothing gets my goat like dubbed English tracks. When I’m watching foreign cinema I want native language and subtitles. Call me a purist. Call me what you will.
The second is that this is a film that gets better on replay. Sure it’s fairly dumb in delivery, plot and acting, but it delivered the most splattery fun of just about any film in 2009. When this film amps up the action it doesn’t forget what matters most to horror fiends – and that’s bloody fuckin’ gore!
The official synopsis from the press release: When a group of medical students take a sex-and-booze-fueled ski vacation to a remote cabin in the scenic Norwegian Alps, they uncover a dark secret from World War II. After arriving at a remote cabin and unpacking their beer and ski gear, the students are visited by a suspicious hiker, who tells them that during the war, Nazis occupying the area were driven by the locals deep into the mountains and were presumed to have frozen to death there. But the vacationers discover that there’s indeed something stirring out there, and it’s not long before they are confronted by a battalion of uncontrollable, unstoppable and extremely undead Nazis.
