This past week several DVD release dates were announced as locked, loaded, and ready to go. Instead of giving each their own special post we figured we might as well includd into one nice little package for you all. Let’s take a look…

Blood CreekBlood Creek:
First up is Blood Creek, which hits DVD this Tuesday, January 19 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Starring Dominic Purcell, Henry Cavill, and Michael Fassbender, the film directed by Joel Schumacher hasn’t gotten much positive criticism, but we can’t weigh in on that since we haven’t had the chance to see it yet.

Here’s the official synopsis:
Blood Creek, a tense supernatural horror-thriller concerning two brothers who find themselves at the center of a terrifying occult experiment. In 1936, the Wollners, a German family living in Town Creek, West Virginia, are contacted by the Third Reich to host a visiting scholar. In need of money, they accept Professor Richard Wirth into their home, unaware of the Third Reich’s practices in the occult and Wirth’s real mission that will keep the family bound for decades to come. After 71 years, in 2007, Evan Marshall’s life has stalled at 25 years old when he is left without answers after his older brother Victor’s disappearance from a camping trip near Town Creek. When Victor returns one night, very much alive, and having escaped his captors, Evan asks no questions. At his brother’s request, he loads their rifles, packs their boat and follows Victor back to Town Creek on a mission of revenge that will test them in every possible way.

Up Next is Bitch Slap:
Not so much horror as over the top modern exploitation, Bitch Slap is one of those films you’re going to either love or abhor.

The Synopsis:
Trixie, Hel and Camero may look good on the outside, but they’re nothing but badass on the inside. When the tempting trio arrive in the desert to retrieve stolen jewels at a ruthless gangster’s hideout, they find themselves competing against an assortment of bizarre criminals – and each other. But what else can one expect from a down-on-her luck stripper, a drug-running killer and a ball-busting businesswoman? Bounding with violence and excess galore, Bitch Slap is a wildly explosive tribute to the sensationalistic style of the cult exploitation genre and a modern throwback to the “B” movie film genre.

The audacious and excessive action flick stars a sexy young cast, including Julia Voth, Erin Cummings, America Olivo, alongside tenacious cameos by Kevin Sorbo (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”), Michael Hurst (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”), Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) and Renee O’Connor (“Xena: Warrior Princess”). Already boasting a cult fan following and a #1 trailer spot on Hulu, the Bitch Slap Unrated DVD includes commentary by cast and crew and a behind-the-scenes documentary featurette and will be available for the suggested retail price of $22.98 U.S. Prebook is February 3.

DVD Special Features:
● Building A Better B-Movie Documentary
● Commentary by Producers Rick Jacobson (Writer/Producer/Director), Eric Gruendemann (Writer/Producer) & Brian Peck (Associate Producer)
● Commentary by Principal Cast: Julia Voth (Trixie), Erin Cummings (Hel) & America Olivo (Camero)

After Dark Horrorfest 4 DVDAfter Dark Horrorfest:
This is a quick in and out for After Dark Horrorfest 4. We’ve been steadily posting news for this event as it has become available, but oddly it would seem that the theater listing is even more trimmed down than last year. The film fest has attained the reputation for churning out mediocre quality horror films with one or two gems mixed in the rough. This years films include: Hidden, Kill Theory, Lake Mungo, The Reeds, Zombies of Mass Destruction, Dread, The Graves, and The Final. The film fest hits limited theaters on January 29 and then will be getting a quick turnaround DVD release on March 23, 2010. No word on what may lay in store for the Blu-ray fanatics though. MSRP is set at $159. Basic math puts this a $20 a film. Let’s hope for recessions sake we can find this at a lower price point before the 23rd.

the-collectorThe Collector:
According to Video ETA you’ll be able to snag this brutal bit of hack n’ slash on April 6. In case you missed it during its extremely brief theatrical run last year The Collector is horror in the vein of SAW. In fact, it was originally slated to be a prequel to SAW. In our review from Fantastic Fest last year, staff reviewer Kayley Viteo said “What is best about how this film is built is that there is a very claustrophobic sense of tension that is instrumental in making sure this film is not merely trap after trap and kill after kill (although, from a gore lover’s perspective, there’s more than enough blood to keep you satisfied). From the lighting to the incredible music (provided by none other than Depeche Mode and Korn), there is so much here for a horror fan to revel in.” The Collector follows a ex-con handyman Arkin who decides to rob his employers home in order to re-pay a debt to his ex-wife. However, Arkin discovers an evil far worse than he could imagine – a killer who simply goes by the moniker “Collector”. Arkin suddenly becomes the protagonist, as he struggles to save the family against a ruthless killer. (This film is not yet available to be pre-ordered)
