‘Vlad’ to be High On Blood, but Without a Drop of Vampirism

News came from EW earlier today that the upcoming film Vlad, from Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, will not have a single vampire reference in the film. The film will focus on the real life of Vlad the Impaler, and not make any allusions to vampirism. For Charlie Hunnam this approach was “non-negotiable”, and have to say – I couldn’t be more happy. Up until this point I had little to no interest in this film. The story of Vlad the Impaler as Dracula has been told and re-told countless times. We didn’t need another one of those films. This film, the way Hunnam intends to portray it, is the film we needed to see.

What I’m not excited about is that according to this article Hunnam envisions the film as a cross between Braveheart and 300 with Colin Farrell at the center of action. Farrell, as we all should be aware, is a talentless actor whose one trick pony consists of his pathetic badboy schtick combined with his roguish good looks. He’s a bit like the boy version of Lindsay Lohen.

Since getting a good chunk of the synopsis dished out in the EW article I think we can ascertain with little doubt that this project is confirmed to be anything but a horror film and as interested as I am in seeing how the film develops, I can safely say that this post will be our first and last on the matter. If you haven’t done so I would definitely encourage you to check out that EW article. Considering they rarely give a film review more than 200 words I have to admit… it’s nice to see an interview with substance.
